Rivera visits Quinnipiac

Mariano Rivera Jr. was on the Quinnipiac campus on Wednesday afternoon with his father and NY Yankees closer Mariano Rivera to take of the tour of the Hamden CT school. Rivera Jr. is a right-handed pitcher out Iona Prep in New York. The 5’10 155 pounder played this past summer in the Bayside Yankees AAU program and contacted the Quinnipiac program on. Top 100 Countdown: 43. Anthony Meo (Coastal Carolina)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 43 with Coastal Carolina junior RHP Anthony Meo. The Cranston, Rhode Island, native attended Cranston West High School as he helped his team to back-to-back state championships in his final two seasons, garnering All-State honors both seasons.  Meo struck out 95 batters in 53 innings his senior season, and was named MVP of the State Championship his junior season. The Washington Nationals selected him in the 2008 MLB Draft in the 43rd round. He decided to attend Coastal Carolina to continue his baseball career. Read the rest of this entry »

New Mexico State Signs Eight

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State baseball head coach Rocky Ward recently announced the addition of eight new student-athletes, as each have signed National Letters of Intent to play and attend school at NM State.

The Aggies are bringing in a couple of left-hand pitchers, four right-handers, one that can also play in the outfield, a catcher and an infielder.  These student-athletes come from California, Washington, Oklahoma, Oregon, Arizona and New Mexico.

“We are happy with the signing class.  We filled our needs with quality baseball players and continued to get more athletic across the board,” Ward said.  ”We don’t lose much off of this 2011 team, but this group of new Aggies will make us much deeper and more versatile on the mound and should be able to fill the voids left by graduating seniors.”

Harvard releases 2011 Schedule

Kentucky releases 2011 Schedule

Top 100 Countdown: 44. Johnny Ruettiger (Arizona State)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 44 with Arizona State junior outfielder Johnny Ruettiger. The Joliet, Illinois, native attended Joliet Catholic Academy as he  picked up three letters in baseball serving as the team captain for two years. As a senior, he went 11-2 on the mound while having a career batting average of .450. He was named a Rawlings All-American while also being named conference player of the year and first team all-state. He was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 35th round (1,053rd overall) in the 2008 MLB Draft but decided to head to Arizona State. Read the rest of this entry »

Pacific releases 2011 Schedule

Indiana looking to rebound in 2011

The Indiana Baseball team won their second straight title in 2010.  Not on the diamond, but in flag football intramurals, with head coach Tracy Smith quarterbacking the team.  ”I am about teaching our kids there is value in winning.  I don’t care what you are doing, it is better to win than lose.”  Winning was common for Hoosiers in 2009 on the diamond, when they entered the Big Ten Tournament as the three seed and swept through it on their way to their first Big Ten Title under Tracy Smith since he took over the program in 2006.  After an injury plagued 2010 that saw them squeak into the Big Ten Tournament, the Hoosiers look to come out swinging in 2011. Top 100 Countdown: 45. Brian Johnson (Florida)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 45 with sophomore two way player Brian Johnson from the University of Florida. The Cocoa Beach Florida native had an outstanding high school career at Cocoa Beach High School. During his senior campaign in 2009, he went 5-1 with four complete games and a 0.76 ERA in 55 innings. He was also solid at the plate hitting .551 with 25 runs, 21 RBI and nine homers. He earned first-team all-state recognition in Class 4A and was the All-Space Coast Most Valuable Player for his great senior season. Johnson was ranked the 84th best high school prospect by Baseball America heading into the 2009 MLB Draft. He ended up being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 27th round but could not come to an agreement with them. Read the rest of this entry »

Northern Colorado releases 2011 Schedule

GREELEY, Colo. – First-year head coach Carl Iwasaki is excited to begin his first spring at the University of Northern Colorado and feels the schedule is well tailored to the 2011 team.

Illinois releases 2011 Schedule

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb announced his team’s schedule for the 2011 season Monday, with the team slated to play in the third-annual Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge on Feb. 18-20, and the Metrodome Tournament at 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifier Minnesota. The Illini will face three NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in 2010 – Minnesota, Illinois State and Saint Louis, and will play a three-game series at Florida Gulf Coast, which went 38-20 last season. The season start date of Feb. 18 will be the fourth-earliest start date in school history and earliest since Illinois started the 2001 season on Feb. 17. Read the rest of this entry »

Cal Baseball: Should you Stay or Go?

The last two weeks we have started to see news start to leak out about a couple of Cal Baseball players starting to make their transfer plans for the spring semester. The biggest news was that Eric Jaffe is expected to become a member of the UCLA baseball team at the end of the semester break after being a 19th round selection by the Oakland A’s in the 2010 MLB Draft.
