Gonzaga Baseball Gives Back

SPOKANE, Wash. – Members of the Gonzaga University baseball team volunteered at the Annual Christmas Reunion held at Valley Real Life in Spokane on Dec. 4. The event benefited the American Childhood Cancer Organization Inland Northwest, formerly known as Candlelighters of the Inland Northwest. The Annual Christmas Reunion helped raise awareness about childhood cancer in the Spokane community and raise money to support programs and services that benefits children with cancer and their families. Arkansas Donates Toys to Kids

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas baseball team recently took a break from studying for final exams to deliver Christmas presents to local children at Leverett Elementary School.

Players and coaches from the team raised more than $600 and then used those funds to go out and purchase gifts for the children. Members of the baseball team delivered the gifts to the kids on Monday, December 13. Read the rest of this entry »

Manhattan Baseball Spreads Holiday Cheer

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan College baseball team spread holiday cheer last week at St. Augustine’s School in the Bronx by participating in the annual “Breakfast with Santa” celebration for the second straight year. Top 100 Countdown: 35. Austin Maddox (Florida)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 35 with Florida sophomore Austin Maddox. The Jacksonville, Florida, native attended Eagle’s View Academy where he had one of the best careers in school history. In his high school career, Maddox led the Warriors to a 19-2 playoff record, a pair of state championships and four final fours. As a high school senior, he hit .544 with 33 RBI, 23 runs, 11 doubles and nine home runs. He was named Florida Times-Union’s All-First Coast Baseball Player of the Year. The Tampa Bay Rays draft him in the 37th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft with the 1,129th overall pick but he decided to head to Florida to continue his playing career. Wofford’s Mac Doyle questionable for 2011 Season

Wofford preseason All-American catcher Mac Doyle’s status is up in the air. I spoke with Wofford College head coach Todd Interdonato stated that he still hasn’t made a decision on whether Doyle will play this season after having an injury to his throwing arm.

Northwestern releases 2011 Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern head baseball coach Paul Stevens has announced the team’s 2011 schedule released today (Dec. 17). The Wildcats open their slate Feb. 18 at the Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

NU ventures to Winston-Salem, N.C., the following weekend to participate in a tournament hosted by Wake Forest before traveling to Evansville, Ind., March 4-6. Read the rest of this entry »

UConn releases 2011 Schedule

STORRS, Conn. – In 2011, the University of Connecticut baseball team is scheduled to play 56 regular season games in the program’s 116th season, including 16 games against teams that competed in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.

The 16 games will be played against nine different opponents, including Central Connecticut, College of Charleston, Louisville, Minnesota, Oregon State, St. John’s, San Diego, Southern Miss., and UC Irvine. Prior to BIG EAST competition, UConn will play three programs that won their respective conference titles in 2010 as San Diego won the West Coast Conference, Minnesota won the Big Ten and Southern Miss took home the Conference USA crown.
