Top 100 Countdown: 32. Barrett Barnes (Texas Tech)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 32 with Texas Tech sophomore outfielder Barrett Barnes. He is a 2009 graduate of Class 5A Fort Bend High School in Austin, Texas where earned varsity letters in baseball and was coached by Randy Ursery and Kenneth Sharp. Tennessee releases 2011 Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee baseball team and Head Coach Todd Raleigh announced the schedule for the upcoming 2011 campaign on Tuesday. Highlighting the slate are eight series against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, including home sets against defending national champion South Carolina, Milwaukee, Ole Miss and Auburn. Metrodome Collapse Causing Trouble in Baseball

Metrodome PhotoAs nearly everybody saw last weekend, the Metrodome roof collapsed from the weight of snow which caused the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings to move their last two home games to other sites. The Metrodome is the home to over 100 college baseball games during the early part of the season with some days featuring 24 straight hours of baseball.

Marbut’s Cougars Locked and Loaded, Shooting for Omaha

Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut has been to Omaha before.  ”I haven’t been in 11 years since my brother in law played for the SJSU team in 2000, and I told myself I wouldn’t go as a spectator again, but I hope to get there again soon.” That’s not just talk from Coach Marbut. Top 100 Countdown: 33. Taylor Dugas (Alabama)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 33 with Alabama junior outfielder Taylor Dugas. The Lafayette, Louisiana, native attended Teurlings Catholic High School where he was a four year starter for head coach Mike Thibodeaux. In his high school career, he batted .518 (176 for 340) with 19 home runs and 159 RBI. His senior season saw him hit .640 (57 for 86) with 10 home runs, 38 RBI, 55 runs, 17 doubles and four triples while being named a Collegiate Baseball High School All-American, LBCA Player of the Year, first-team All-State by the LBCA, and won the Rebel of the Year Award at TCHS.

Futures Collegiate Baseball League Announced

Mike Zhe of Seacoastonline.com reports that there will be a new collegiate summer baseball league in New England called the Futures Collegiate Baseball League. The league will have teams on Martha’s Vineyard, the Seacoast NH area, Nashua NH, and one to three more teams for the 2011 season. The league is expected to expand in the 2012 season as they try to take on the NECBL as being the second best collegiate league in New England. Read the rest of this entry »

Wes Cook leaves South Carolina

South Carolina LHP Wes Cook will not be a member of the baseball team in 2011 after failing to meet academic standards to be eligible for the spring semester. He was a incoming transfer from Central Alabama Junior College where he went 8-3 with a 3.49 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 111 innings last season while as a freshman went 10-0 while averaging 7.6 strikeouts per nine innings. Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Releases 2011 Preseason Poll

TUCSON, Ariz. — Texas Christian University is ranked No. 1 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s NCAA Division I pre-season baseball poll.

The Horned Frogs finished third at the College World Series last season and return a deep and experienced ball club for 2011. Seven position player starters are back along with three Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American starting pitchers in LHP Matt Purke (16-0, 3.02 ERA, 142 K, 34 BB), RHP Kyle Winkler (12-3, 3.39 ERA, 92 K, 36 BB), and RHP Steven Maxwell (11-2, 2.70 ERA, 93 K, 34 BB). Top 100 Countdown: 34. Alex Meyer (Kentucky)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 34 with junior RHP Alex Meyer from Kentucky. The lanky righthander who checks in at 6’9 220 pounds is a Greensburg, Indiana, native where he attended Greensburg High School as he developed into one of the best players in the country. As a senior, he had an ERA of 0.95 and a 8-0 record in 51 innings as a senior while striking out 108 and walking 30. He ended up holding school records for most strikeouts in a season, career and lowest season ERA. Read the rest of this entry »

Missouri State signs Lease with Hammons Field

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Hammons Field will continue to be the home of the Missouri State University Baseball Bears for five more years through 2015, thanks to a lease extension signed on Friday.

The MSU baseball team will continue to play all home games at the venue and will maintain use of Hammons Field for practices, locker rooms, weight facilities and training areas. Arizona State to Appeal Postseason Ban

Arizona State University will appeal the postseason ban which was levied against them this past week for NCAA violations under former head coach Pat Murphy according to the Arizona Republic. ASU president Michael Crow confirmed the appeal but Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love and baseball coach Tim Esmay have not spoken about the situation. Read the rest of this entry »
