Vanderbilt releases 2011 Schedule

The Vanderbilt baseball team will begin the 2011 season on February 18 in San Diego.

The Commodores will take on the University of San Diego and Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn’s San Diego State Aztecs on the West Coast trip. The Dores open the home schedule with cross-town rival Belmont on February 23 before hosting Pac-10 power Stanford February 25-27. Franklin Pierce returns from Dominican Republic Trip

UC-Davis releases 2011 Schedule

DAVIS, Calif. – With a season-opening Causeway Cup series against Sacramento State and games against four teams who advanced to the NCAA Division I Championship, the 2011 baseball schedule has been announced by UC Davis head coach Rex Peters.

UC Davis opens the 2011 campaign with a weekend series against crosstown rival Sacramento State from Feb. 18-20. UC Davis will host the first and third games at Dobbins Baseball Complex, while the middle game will be played at Hornet Field. Eastern Michigan releases 2011 Schedule

Rutgers releases 2011 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 1, 2010) – The Rutgers baseball team, under the direction of veteran head coach Fred Hill, has unveiled its 2011 schedule. The Scarlet Knights will play six schools that earned a berth in the 2010 NCAA Championship a season ago and will play 17 of its first 18 games of the spring on the road. Top 100 Countdown: 49. Zach Cone (Georgia)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 49 with junior outfielder Zach Cone from Georgia. The Stone Mountain Georgia native attended Parkview High School where he won four letters. As a senior, he had a .425 batting average, eight home runs 17 stolen bases, a .510 on base percentage while going 6-0 on the mound. He was named Team MVP while picking up First-Team All County honors. He was a third round selection by the LA Angels of Anaheim but decided to become a Bulldog. Read the rest of this entry »

Fordham releases 2011 Schedule

Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball head coach Nick Restaino announced the team’s 2011 schedule today, as the Rams will begin play on February 18th in Virginia.

Except for 1944, the Fordham baseball program has played every year since 1859 and stands as the winningest program in NCAA history. The Rams will be competing for their sixth Atlantic 10 Championship tournament berth in the last eight years, in hopes of being at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will take place May 25-28 at Campbell’s Field in Camden, New Jersey. South Carolina releases 2011 Schedule

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina baseball team has announced its schedule for the 2011 season featuring 25 games against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams as well as 35 home games at Carolina Stadium. The defending national champions open the season on Friday, February 18 hosting a three-game series vs. Santa Clara. The schedule also includes 30 Southeastern Conference contests and a three-game series with in-state rival Clemson. Read the rest of this entry »

Jose Bautista Paving Way for Other Dominican Players

Jose Bautista single handily won my fantasy roto league.  I never would have known who he was if Pablo Sandoval weren’t underachieving so badly, but in May I became all too familiar with the Homerun Champ.

Bautista is using his elevated celebrity in a great way by recruiting Dominican players to come play college baseball in the states.  Bautista who was recruited out of the Dominican Republic by his high school coach to play at Chipola in 2000, and ended up being drafted by the Pirates in the 20th round that June.  Bautista was recruited due to the fact that he not only excelled on the field but in the classroom, and the new program he is setting up hopes to target the same type of student athletes not only from the Dominican Republic, but it also has hopes of expanding to other countries.  He is currently working with the NCAA to place players with schools. Top 100 Countdown: 50. John Hinson (Clemson)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 50 with redshirt junior infielder John Hinson. The Asheville, North Carolina native had a standout career at A.C. Reynolds High School as he was a four-time letter winner under head coach Bryan Craig. He was named an all-conference selection in each of his four seasons while setting the school record for hits in a career. For the 2007 MLB Draft, Hinson was rated as the #170th best prospect in the nation by Baseball America and 314th prospect by Perfect Game while being the 13th best prospect in North Carolina by Perfect Game. The Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 40th round (1210 overall pick) but were not able to get Hinson to sign. Read the rest of this entry »
