Top 100 Countdown: 32. Barrett Barnes (Texas Tech)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 32 with Texas Tech sophomore outfielder Barrett Barnes. He is a 2009 graduate of Class 5A Fort Bend High School in Austin, Texas where earned varsity letters in baseball and was coached by Randy Ursery and Kenneth Sharp. He was named First-Team All-District for his senior season.

Barnes made an immediate impact in the Red Raiders lineup starting all 57 games last season. He ended up leading the team with a .341 batting average while hitting 14 homers and driving in 53 runs. He also chipped in with 12 stolen bases in 15 attempts. He

was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year and a member of the All-Big 12 Second Team. He was also named to multiple Freshman All-American teams including Baseball America First Team, Louisville Slugger, and Pro-LineAthletic/NCBWA.

He spent the summer of 2010 in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Falmouth Commodores. In 37 games played, he batted .223 (27-for-121) with 18 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, three home runs, 24 RBI, 22 walks, five hit-by-pitch and was 7-of-9 in stolen bases.
