ABC Action News out of Tampa recently ran an excellent feature on younger baseball players in there teenage years having ulnar collateral ligament aka “Tommy-John” surgeries after being overused during Little League and other year round travel team leagues.  The feature makes the argument for pitch counts for young players.

Western Illinois Coach Todd Coryell believes that it is about developing the arms. He says “I believe that if everyone went through the rehab that tommy john patients go through then they would throw harder.”
