Rivera visits Quinnipiac

Mariano Rivera Jr. was on the Quinnipiac campus on Wednesday afternoon with his father and NY Yankees closer Mariano Rivera to take of the tour of the Hamden CT school. Rivera Jr. is a right-handed pitcher out Iona Prep in New York. The 5’10 155 pounder played this past summer in the Bayside Yankees AAU program and contacted the Quinnipiac program on.Quinnipiac head coach Dan Gooley stated to the QU Chronicle about how the visit was set up:

“He contacted us and said he was interested, so then, of course, we did some follow-up information on him and tried to get some more background information on him. He decided he wanted to come up for a search. Every young guy who visits, we try and meet with them and talk to them.”

Gooley also gave a brief scouting report on the younger Rivera stating:

“He throws a lot of strikes. He’s the kind of kid you get on a real good strength and conditioning program and work with him mechanically. He could be a good, solid player at this level.”
