Top 100 Countdown: 49. Zach Cone (Georgia)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 49 with junior outfielder Zach Cone from Georgia. The Stone Mountain Georgia native attended Parkview High School where he won four letters. As a senior, he had a .425 batting average, eight home runs 17 stolen bases, a .510 on base percentage while going 6-0 on the mound. He was named Team MVP while picking up First-Team All County honors. He was a third round selection by the LA Angels of Anaheim but decided to become a Bulldog.

Cone made an immediate impact in the Georgia lineup in his freshman season in 2009. He appeared in 45 games with 20 starts as he hit .323 with four home runs and 18 RBI. He was even better in the postseason as he .417. He spent the summer of 2009 with the Cotuit Kettleers as he played in 39 games hitting at .243 with three homers and 20 RBI.

Zach became an everyday starter in 2010 as he appeared in 53 games (52 starts) as he led the team in all three triple crown categories with a .363 batting average with 10 home runs and 53 RBI. In SEC action, he hit .360 with 6 homers and 27 RBI. He is considered an excellent fielder as he made one error in 2010 while leading the SEC with nine outfield assists. He again spent the summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with Cotuit as he played in 34 games hitting .187 with 7 RBI.
