Regis University assistant baseball coach Ronald Rocha was one of 35 people arrested as part of gang-affiliated network that distributed 20 kilograms of Mexican cocaine a week in metro Denver. Also grabbed in the raid: 53 kilos of cocaine, 35 pounds of marijuana and more than $650,000 in cash. We should see how Regis University handles this news in the coming weeks. This is the second college coach in the past two weeks to be caught up in a scandal as College of Southern Nevada coach Chris Sheff was fired last week. (Link)

College of Charleston Baseball Releases 2011 Schedule

Three home tournaments, games against seven 2010 NCAA participants including College World Series Champion South Carolina and 30 Southern Conference contests highlight the College of Charleston’s 2011 schedule.
“I’m excited about our 2011 schedule,” said Head Coach Monte Lee, in his third year with the Cougars. “We have 36 home games this year which is great, and some very good clubs coming to play here. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs release 2011 Schedule

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech baseball head coach Wade Simoneaux announced the Bulldogs’ 2011 schedule Tuesday afternoon. The 57-game regular season schedule features 31 games at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in addition to 14 games against four teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
“We really worked hard to get more home games on our schedule because this team was at a slight disadvantage the last couple of years playing more road games,” said the ninth-year head coach. “We tried to really build our home schedule to help give them that confidence going into conference play.”
The 2011 slate will pit the Bulldogs against teams that have a combined 17 College World Series appearances and two College World Series titles.
Ball State releases 2011 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball first-year head coach Alex Marconi announced a 52-game schedule for the 2011 season Tuesday afternoon, including 21 games at Ball Diamond. The Cardinals return 18 letterwinners from last season’s team that posted a 19-8 record in Mid-American Conference play.
The Cardinals open the season February 18 as they begin a three-game series at Kennesaw State in Georgia, marking the first ever games against the Owls. Ball State continues its season-opening 14-game road stretch February 25 with a three-game series at Southeast Missouri.
Introducing College Baseball Daily
I know some of our users might know about this already but The College Baseball Blog will no longer exist. We went through a domain name change over the weekend as the site will now be known as College Baseball Daily. The new domain is now (collegebaseballdaily.com) and we were able to bring over all of our previous posts from the previous domain. Please update your bookmarks to reflect the name change. The Twitter feed has also changed to CB_Daily. Sadly, we are not able to change the Facebook page’s name so it will still be the same. There will be a new logo made in the next week to reflect the name change.
Top 100 Countdown: 69. Ryan Carpenter (Gonzaga)
College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 69 with Gonzaga junior LHP Ryan Carpenter. Carpenter starred at Cactus High School in Peoria, Arizona, where he was a 4-time letter winner and was named to the All-State team his Senior season. He struck out 119 batters in 73 innings in 2008, racking up a 10-2 record with a 1.20 ERA. During that season, he threw 2 no-hitters and a one-hitter. He was selected in the 21st round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays, but elected to go to school.
Can Chambers bring UNLV to Omaha?
New UNLV head coach Tim Chambers enters his first season in charge of the Rebels baseball program. He is taking over a program that had a disappointing 2009 campaign as they went 29-29 overall while going 11-13 in the Mountain West Conference. Chambers takes over from Buddy Gouldsmith who was in charge of the program for seven seasons.

We continue the countdown today at number 70 with South Carolina sophomore infielder Christian Walker. He is from Limerick, Pennsylvania where he attended Kennedy-Kenrick High School. As a senior, he hit .588 his senior season which led to him being named to 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer All-S.E. Pennsylvania team. He was rated 88th best high school player in the country by PG Crosschecker as well as the No. 1 best high school player in the state of Pennsylvania. The LA Dodgers ended up picking him in the 49th round but were not able to come to terms with him.

Western Kentucky Visits with Kelly Autism Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The WKU baseball team spent some time giving back to the community Thursday afternoon as they welcomed students from the local Kelly Autism Program to Nick Denes Field.
The student athletes took a break from their fall practice to play catch and interact with students from the program. The students spent time learning about the game of baseball and even got the chance to step inside the batting cage and take some swings.
