Top 100 Countdown: 62. Steve Selsky (Arizona)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 62 with Arizona’s RF Steve Selsky.  The junior from Manhattan Beach, California, won a CIF championship with Loyola High School in 2007, a team that also included Danny Muno of Fresno State.  Selsky was named the Team MVP in 2008, and participated in the National Homerun Derby at Tropicana Field, representing California. Stephen F. Austin releases 2011 Schedule

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Coming off a program-best 34 victories, SFA head baseball coach Johnny Cardenas announced on Tuesday the schedule for the upcoming 2011 season.

The `Jacks take on four teams that qualified for last season’s NCAA Tournament, as well as one team that advanced deep into the College World Series. SFA will play host to 29 home games, which joins the 2008 slate for the most since bringing the sport back. Read the rest of this entry »

Friday Checkin with Indiana’s Tracy Smith

Indiana head coach Tracy Smith continued with his Friday checkins with the media relations department. He talks about how well his staff did during the early signing period. He also discusses some of the great team bonding activities he has done recently including a paintball trip with the team and a no-shave November which is a change for the Hoosiers as they usually are clean shaven according to Coach Smith. Centenary releases 2011 Schedule

SHREVEPORT-The Centenary baseball team and first-year head coach Mike Diaz announced its 2011 schedule on Monday. The Gents are scheduled to play 44 games, 19 at home and 25 on the road.

“Our schedule has a good balance of mid major and regional caliber teams. I think it will provide our staff with the opportunities needed to evaluate our team so that we can make adjustments, and it will challenge and prepare our team for conference play,” said Diaz. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 Countdown: 63. Aaron Westlake (Vanderbilt)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 63 with Vanderbilt’s Aaron Westlake. He is a redshirt junior first baseman/catcher from Redding California and attended Shasta High School. He was a four year letter winner grabbing multiple awards including being named First-team all-state and section MVP in 2006 while also picking up first team all-league in 2005-07 and first team all-section from 2004-07. In 2004, he helped bring the team to the section championships. Heading into the 2007 draft, he was named the 55th best prospect in the state of California by Baseball America. SIU Baseball Coach Dan Callahan Passes Away

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University head baseball coach Dan Callahan died Monday at his home in Carterville, Ill.

Callahan, 52, lost a courageous battle with neurotropic melanoma, a rare form of skin cancer. He is survived by his wife, Stacy, daughters, Alexa (19) and Carly (14), and parents Ann and Gene. Read the rest of this entry »

UC-Santa Barbara releases 2011 Schedule

Oklahoma releases 2011 Schedule

OklahomaOmahaNORMAN, Okla. — University of Oklahoma Vice President/Athletics Director Joe Castiglione and head coach Sunny Golloway released the Sooners’ 2011 baseball schedule consisting of 56 regular season games on Wednesday.

The Sooners will host 31 games at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, including the first Bedlam Series game since 1996 on Tuesday, April 5. OU made the trek to Stillwater last season, marking the first year that the instate rivalry was extended to four regular season games.

Brown releases 2011 Schedule

BrownHomePlatePROVIDENCE, R.I. – The World Series may have ended last night, but the collegiate baseball season is just around the corner. Brown head baseball coach Marek Drabinski has announced the 18 different opponents and 44 games that the Bears will play beginning on Friday, March 4 at Vanderbilt.

Brown’s season begins on the road with a three game set on March 4-6 against the Commodores in Nashville, Tenn. The Bears continue its tough, season-opening slate with a road trip to perennial powerhouse Texas on March 11-13.

Kennesaw State releases 2011 Schedule

KennesawOwlsScheduleKENNESAW, Ga. – Head Coach Mike Sansing and the Owls have announced the release of the 2011 baseball schedule that features 31 home games and includes visits to Stillwell Stadium by Georgia Tech, Georgia and Tennessee.

The Owls 56-game schedule will feature home-and-home games with both the Yellow Jackets and the Bulldogs and a first-time visit to campus by the Volunteers. The Black and Gold will play Tennessee on March 30 in a Wednesday evening game.

Top 100 Countdown: 64. Jason Coats (TCU)

TCU AthleticsCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 64 with TCU junior outfielder Jason Coats. He is from Plano, Texas where he attended Plano West High School picking up three letters. As a senior, he had a .450 batting average with a .950 slugging percentage and nine home runs. He was able to help lead the team to a 28-0 record and a 5A state championship. He picked up several honors including being named the MVP of the Texas North/South All-Star game and first team all-state.
