The TCU Horned Frogs have accepted an offer to join the Big East Conference as a full member starting in the 2012-2013 school year. Casey Close a Behind the Scenes Star
Former Michigan outfielder Casey Close has transitioned into the agent business representing high profile shortstop Derek Jeter. Close was an outstanding player for the Wolverines hitting .440 with 19 home runs and 72 RBI during his senior campaign in 1986. He was named a first team All-American and Baseball America’s Player of the Year. He ended up being drafted in the seventh round by the New York Yankees as he spent five seasons bouncing around the minors spending parts of three seasons in AAA. Read the rest of this entry »

We continue the countdown today at number 52 with sophomore Jeremy Baltz from St. John’s. The Vestal, NY native attended the local Vestal High School where he was a four-time New York State scholar-athlete. He earned a total of three letters in baseball while helping the Golden Bears win three straight sectional titles and two conference championships. He was a two-time all-division selection while being named all-conference as a senior. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 45th round in the 2009 MLB Draft but decided to attend St. John’s. Alabama’s David Kindred Free of Cancer
Alabama outfielder David Kindred was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma before the Crimson Tide’s game against LSU during the 2010 SEC conference tourney. We continue the countdown today at number 54 with South Carolina Redshirt Sophomore Matt Price. Price hails from Sumter, SC, where at Sumter High School he was part of the 2008 AAAA All-State Team, where he had a 7-4 record and a 0.40 ERA. Even though he hasn’t started a game for the Gamecocks, Price once pitched a 17 strikeout no-hitter at the World Bat Championships in Jupiter, Florida, in 2006. In that same year, he helped lead his Sumter High School team to a South Carolina State Championship.

We continue the countdown today at number 56 with Arizona State infielder Deven Marrero. The Davie, Florida native attended American Heritage High School where he was a two time captain. He was also named All-State and All-County in 2008, when American Heritage won both the Florida State title and the National title. He ended up being drafted in the 17th round (509th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds during the 2009 MLB Draft.
