USC Upstate Announces 56-Game Slate for 2011

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will continue its theme of tough schedules as the Spartans will play a total of 11 games against five teams finished in the RPI top-45 a season ago as head coach Matt Fincher has announced today the 2011 baseball schedule.

Upstate will face defending national champion South Carolina, who finished with a RPI of seven, as well as College of Charleston (21), The Citadel (31), Virginia Tech (35) and Florida Gulf Coast (42).

Miami (FL)’s Chris Pelaez talks about Fall Practice

He discusses his offseason workouts/training and expectations for the upcoming 2011 season. Arizona State Reloads for 2011

MitchellLambsonASUArizona State lost consecutive games only once all season in 2010, leading to a 52-10 record.  Problem is, those losses came in the first two games at Rosenblatt Stadium.  Losing their entire starting rotation as well as the Mayor of Omaha Kole Calhoun and spark plug shortstop Drew Maggi to the 2010 MLB draft, Deven Marrero and Mitchell Lambson will help lead ASU into 2011 and hopefully not miss a beat.  Friend of the site Nick Kosmider of the State Press chimes in with his impressions on Marrero, who with four hits was the only offensive producer of note in Omaha for Arizona State, as well as probable candidates to fill in the starting rotation.

Top 100 Countdown: 73. Andrew Susac (Oregon State)

SusacheadshotThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 73 with Oregon State’s Andrew Susac. He is a 6’1 200 pound sophomore catcher from Roseville California and Jesuit High School. He was a two year letter winner in high school as he was named first-team all-city honors, Delta River League MVP, First-Team All-State, ESPN First-Team All-State, and Rawlings First-Team All-State. He was also named a 2009 Louisville Slugger All-American. After his senior season, Baseball America rated him as the 40th player in the country while Perfect Game had him 28 and Baseball Factory at 32. The Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 16th round but were not able to come to terms with him.

College of Southern Nevada Coach facing Allegations

College of Southern Nevada first year head coach Chris Sheff is facing an in-house investigation regarding allegations that players were charged $125 for a mandatory conditioning program in addition to making players pay for post-practice meals and the coaching staff bringing drugs into the locker room.

Texas A&M releases 2011 Schedule

TexasA&MCOLLEGE STATION, Texas – Aggie fans will have 35 chances to see the Texas A&M baseball team in action at Olsen Field this spring as Wednesday the team announced its 2011 schedule.

“We are excited about our spring schedule as it is going to be both challenging and entertaining for our team and fans,” head coach Rob Childress said. “In addition to giving us the chance to play 35 games at Olsen Field in front of college baseball’s best fans, it will also help us reach our goals of bringing home another Big 12 title and being the last team standing in Omaha at the end of the season.”

Minnesota releases 2011 Schedule

MinnesotaScheduleThe Minnesota baseball team has finalized its 2011 schedule according to an announcement by head coach John Anderson on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Minnesota will host the Pro & Legends Alumni Game at the Metrodome on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 6:35 p.m. It will be 18th version of this game.

Renovation of Stony Brook Baseball’s Joe Nathan Field Underway

JoeNathanFieldRenovation of Stony Brook Baseball’s Joe Nathan Field is underway, Director of Athletics Jim Fiore announced yesterday. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in March 2011.

“The renovation of our baseball facility is another tremendous step for our athletics department,” Fiore said. “The Stony Brook baseball program has consistently been one of the finest in the Northeast region, and it will now have a home that will be reflective of all its success.”

Illinois State releases 2011 Schedule

IllinoisStateBaseballNORMAL, Ill.-The defending Missouri Valley Conference Champion Illinois State baseball team’s 2011 schedule is highlighted by matchups against seven teams that won 30 or more games last season, two that qualified for the NCAA Division I Tournament and one that finished the season nationally-ranked. The schedule, which was released Tuesday, also features the annual Horenberger-Bass Classic, which pits the Redbirds against the 2010 NCAA Division III National Champion Illinois Wesleyan Titans.
