Top 100 Countdown: 57. Drew Martinez (Memphis)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 57 with junior outfielder Drew Martinez from Memphis. He is from Collierville Tennessee where he had a outstanding career at CBHS. As a senior, he batted .442 and had a 7-2 record on the mound.

He made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2009 with the Memphis Tigers. He appeared in 48 games (46 starts) as he hit at a .309 batting average, a .392 on-base percentage and 60 hits. He was the first freshman to lead a Memphis team in hitting since 1981. He also scored 32 runs, drove in 12 and stole nine bases.

As a sophomore in 2010, Martinez continued his strong career by finishing second on the team with a .377 batting average while scoring a team high 62 runs while driving in 41. He was very good on the basepaths as he finished second on the team with 19 stolen bases in 29 attempts. He spent the summer of 2010 in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Brewster Whitecaps. Martinez ended up having a terrific summer finishing second in the league with a .359 batting average while hitting a homer and driving in 18 runs. He also scored 25 runs as he stole 22 bases in 29 attempts. He was named a Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star as he went 0-4 in the game. (Live Blog|Recap)
