UNC star outfielder Brian Goodwin has been suspended for the 2011 season for violating university policy. Last season, Goodwin played in 60 games hitting .291 with seven homers and 61 RBI. He played this past summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Harwich Mariners where he led the team in hitting with a .281 average with a homer and driving in 29 runs. Baseball America rated him the 6th best pro prospect in the Cape. This is a huge loss for the Tar Heels this season as they look to make a return to the NCAA Tournament after not making it last season. According to Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt, Goodwin is going to sit out the season and will return for the 2012 season when he will be draft eligible. ESPN’s Keith Law tweeted that he expects Goodwin to transfer to a junior college for this season and then return back to a four year college for the 2012 season. We should see what happens in the coming months.
