Top 100 Countdown: 73. Andrew Susac (Oregon State)

SusacheadshotThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 73 with Oregon State’s Andrew Susac. He is a 6’1 200 pound sophomore catcher from Roseville California and Jesuit High School. He was a two year letter winner in high school as he was named first-team all-city honors, Delta River League MVP, First-Team All-State, ESPN First-Team All-State, and Rawlings First-Team All-State. He was also named a 2009 Louisville Slugger All-American. After his senior season, Baseball America rated him as the 40th player in the country while Perfect Game had him 28 and Baseball Factory at 32. The Philadelphia Phillies selected him in the 16th round but were not able to come to terms with him.

He spent the summer of 2009 with the Corvallis Knights of the West Coast League before heading to Oregon State. He hit .208 with four doubles, a triple and two homers in 33 games. Baseball America rated him as the best prospect in the league. AndrewSusacAction

Susac appeared in 42 games (33 starts) with a .260 batting average while hitting two homers and driving in 13 runs during his freshman season in 2010. He spent the summer of 2010 in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Falmouth Commodores as he hit .290 with a team-high five homers and driving in 15 runs. He was named the fifth best prospect in the CCBL by Baseball America (LINK) while Frankie Pilere of Fanhouse.com had him rated as the 92 best pro prospect for the 2011 MLB Draft. (LINK)
