Memphis releases 2011 Schedule

Wichita State releases 2011 Schedule

WICHITA, Kan. – The 2011 Wichita State baseball schedule features 17 games against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams along with 32 home games, head coach Gene Stephenson announced Nov. 30.

“Once again, we have a very tough schedule,” Stephenson said. “We play a lot of games away from Eck Stadium early on and then Valley play will be difficult because a lot of teams return a lot of players. This schedule will give us a great measuring stick on how good we are. Duke releases 2011 Schedule

DURHAM, N.C. – Series against eight teams that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Baseball Championship highlight the Duke baseball team’s 2011 schedule, as announced on Tuesday by head coach Sean McNally.

Duke will face eight squads that qualified for NCAA Regionals, four that advanced to an NCAA Super Regional and two – Florida State and Clemson – that moved on to the 2010 College Baseball World Series. Along with those conference foes and fellow ACC squads N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Miami, Duke will also face Southern Conference Champion The Citadel. CBD Roundtable: TCU joins Big East Conference

The big story from Monday is the fact that the TCU Horned Frogs will be joining the Big East Conference in all sports starting in the 2012-2013. As all conference news at the BCS level, this move was made with the football program in mind which is currently ranked third in the nation and in the hunt for the national championship. Top 100 Countdown: 51. Logan Verrett (Baylor)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 51 with junior RHP Logan Verrett from Baylor. The Corpus Christi TX native attended Calallen High School which was considered one of the best teams in the nation in 2008. As a senior, he went 18-0 with 0.67 ERA, 167 strikeouts, 12 complete game and three shutouts on the mound. His 18 wins was a school record and led the nation. At the plate, he ended up hitting .455 with seven home runs, 33 RBI and 46 runs as he helped lead the team to a 42-1 record bringing them to the Texas Class 4A state title. The team finished the season ranked ninth in the country according to the Collegiate Baseball/Easton Sports rankings. Read the rest of this entry »

Vanderbilt’s Derek Johnson named ABCA Assistant Coach of the Year

Vanderbilt Associate Head Coach/Pitching Coach Derek Johnson has been named the ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year.

The honor comes on the heels of one of the Commodores most successful seasons in school history. Vanderbilt was one win away from their first trip to the College World Series and appeared in the school’s second-ever Super Regional, eventually losing to Florida State. The team’s pitchers helped guide the Dores to 46 wins, second-most in school history, while posting the second-best team ERA (3.69) in the rugged Southeastern Conference.
