Hall of Famer and SDSU head coach Tony Gwynn to undergo Cancer Treatment

GwynnPhotoBaseball Hall of Famer and current San Diego State head coach has Parotid cancer and will start treatment soon. The cancer is considered curable and is a relatively slow moving cancer according to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune. Tony believes that his use of chewing tobacco has contributed to the cancer. He is expected to be back on the bench in the spring.

South Florida to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes”

UCF Baseball gives back to the Community

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – While fall camp continues for the UCF baseball team, the Knights also have been very busy away from the diamond. This year’s squad has spent time assisting the Miracle League along with conducting clinics for local little leagues at Dr. Phillips and Winter Park.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 95 Sherman Johnson (Florida State)

2010 All Sports Photo Day 2:</p> <p>Sherman Johnson, BaseballThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 95 with Florida State junior infielder Sherman Johnson. He is from Alonso High School and from Tampa Florida. He had an outstanding career in high school which saw him play all four years including being named All-County as a junior and senior.

Indiana Baseball to raise money for ALS

TracySmithBLOOMINGTON, Ind. ¬- Head Coach Tracy Smith and the Indiana baseball team will take part in the Phi Delta Theta Hoosier Derby for ALS on Sunday, Oct. 10. The event will serve as a fundraiser to support research for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Jeff Rowley added to Marshall Coaching Staff

JeffRowleyMarshallHUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Head coach Jeff Waggoner recently announced the hiring of former Marshall baseball player Jeff Rowley to his coaching staff for the 2010-11 season. Rowley replaces volunteer assistant George Brumfield, who stepped down after working with the Herd baseball club for the past four seasons.

Rowley was a two-year letterwinner for the Thundering Herd from 2007-08. He was a key contributor to the historic Conference USA tournament journey, scoring the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning against tournament-host Tulane to advance to the championship game in 2007.

St. Louis releases 2011 Schedule

St.LouisBaseballSaint Louis head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson announced the defending Atlantic 10 Conference champions’ 2011 schedule today. The slate features a nonconference schedule that includes perennial powers Arkansas and Kansas. SLU will play a number of regional rivals, including Missouri State, SIU Edwardsville, Southeast Missouri State and Southern Illinois, as well as a 24-game A-10 schedule.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee releases 2011 Schedule

BaseballMILWAUKEE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team will open the upcoming season on the road against the University of Tennessee, head coach Scott Doffek announced today when he released the 2011 schedule.

“We have put together a very challenging schedule,” Doffek said. “I feel like it is vitally important to challenge our guys early in the year in preparation for league play, as well as for an NCAA Regional. Any chance you get to test yourself at a high level is an opportunity to improve and I think we have done just that with this schedule.”
