Nebraska Baseball Announces 2011 Schedule

A total of 32 home games at Hawks Field and 16 contests against 2010 NCAA Tournament teams highlight the 2011 Nebraska baseball schedule released Wednesday. The 56-game schedule includes 14 home games in the month of March, including a pair of non-conference series against 2010 NCAA runner-up UCLA and 2008 NCAA champion Fresno State.

Indiana Announces 2011 Baseball Schedule

TracySmithIndianaBLOOMINGTON, Ind. ­ The Indiana baseball team will play at least nine games against teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, beginning with three high-level tournaments in the season¹s first three weeks, head coach Tracy Smith announced today. The Hoosiers, who finished over .500 and made the Big Ten Tournament for the third straight season in 2010, will open the 2011 slate with tournaments at Coastal Carolina, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Tennessee.

Dick Howser Trophy Campus Salute to Rice’s Anthony Rendon Set for this Saturday

AnthonyRendonRiceDALLAS, Texas – The Dick Howser Trophy Committee will present its on-campus salute to 2010 Dick Howser Trophy winner Anthony Rendon of Rice this Saturday, October 16 at the Owls’ football game against Houston at Rice Stadium.

In addition to being honored as the winner at the conclusion of the college baseball season, each Howser Trophy winner is saluted once again on his campus the following academic year so that fans and administrators at his school can be a part of recognizing his achievements.  Rendon will be re-presented the Howser Trophy by Jana Howser, daughter of Dick Howser and Executive Vice-President of the College Baseball Foundation, and Bo Carter, Executive Director of the NCBWA, during the first quarter of the Rice-UH football game which airs regionally on CSS.

Florida State releases 2011 Schedule

MikeMartinFSUTALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State baseball team will face two teams that played in the 2010 College World Series, four who finished the season ranked in the nation’s top 25, seven that advanced to the NCAA Tournament and 13 who won at least 30 games during the upcoming season as Hall of Fame Coach Mike Martin released the Seminoles’ 2011 schedule on Tuesday.

UALR releases 2011 Schedule

UALR2011ScheduleLITTLE ROCK - The UALR baseball team will play 29 home games as part of its 2011 schedule, including a non-conference bout against the Oklahoma Sooners at Dickey-Stephens Park on May 4. Scott Norwood enters his third season as head coach of the Trojans in 2011 looking to build on last year’s success, which saw UALR end the year as the NCAA’s 11th-most improved team in the nation.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 92 Mark Pope (Georgia Tech)

We continue the countdown today at number 92 with Georgia Tech junior RHP Mark Pope. He is from Marietta Georgia where he attended Walton High School. He was a four-year letterwinner for baseball coach Shane Amos at Walton with a career record of 21-3. As a senior, he led the team to a runner up finish in the Georgia state tournament as he went 9-2 with a 0.63 ERA. He was selected in the 17th round in the 2008 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves but decided to head to Georgia Tech.

Michigan Baseball Announces 2011 Schedule

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Rich Maloney announced on Tuesday (Oct. 12) the 2011 schedule, which features games against at least four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, a mid-week home series against Texas tech, and the full 27-game Big Ten slate.

Former SMC pitcher Dylan Chavez looking for a New Team

DylanChavezSt.Mary'sFormer St. Mary’s College LHP Dylan Chavez is currently visiting schools as he nears a decision where he will continue his collegiate career. Chavez spent his freshman season in 2010 with St. Mary’s College in California where he appeared in 18 games (2 starts) while going 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched. He has transferred to American River College for this coming spring but is currently looking at Ole Miss, Miami (FL), Oregon, Oregon State, and Arizona State for the 2012 season.

Iowa’s Duane Banks Field Getting New Surface

DuaneBanksFieldIOWA CITY, Iowa – - Carver-Hawkeye Arena isn’t the only facility on Hawkins Drive in Iowa City getting a facelift. After years of playing on the same surface, Duane Banks Field and the Iowa baseball program is in the process of getting a new field.

For the first time since the field was laid down three decades ago, the entire playing surface is being refurbished. According to Head Coach Jack Dahm, about 10-12 years ago the infield was re-sodded and a magic mix dirt was installed. But, as far as revamping the entire field, this is the first time the field has undergone a major facelift.

Top 100 Countdown: Number 93 Jett Bandy (Arizona)

JettBandyHeadshotThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 93 with Arizona junior catcher Jett Bandy. He is from Thousand Oaks California where he attended Thousand Oaks High School. He had an outstanding career as he won four letters for head coach Frank Mutz. He hit .362 as a senior with six home runs, 21 doubles and 54 RBI. He also won several awards including being named Marmonte League MVP in senior season and Ventura County Player of the Year as a senior. He also was named First Team All-Marmonte League as a junior and senior and Second Team All-Marmonte League as a sophomore. He was selected in the 41st Round of the 2008 MLB First Year Player Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the 1,237th overall pick but ended up not coming to an agreement with the Dodgers opting to attend Arizona.

New Coaches putting stamp on Mizzou Baseball

Hobbs-KendrickThe Missouri baseball program has two new assistant coaches in Matt Hobbs and Kerrick Jackson. Hobbs will be taking over as pitching coach replacing Tony Vitello who left to become the recruiting coordinator at TCU. He comes over from the University of San Francisco where he spent last season after spending three seasons with UC-San Diego. Kerrick Jackson has worked with the Washington National since 2007 and will coach the outfielders and assist with the offense.

We continue the countdown today at number 94 with Mercer junior third baseman Jacob Tanis. He is from Peachtree City Georgia and attended McIntosh High School. He earned four letters in baseball while also picking up two with the basketball program. He was named first team all-state and regional player of the year as a senior.
