Jeremy Hill added to Hofstra Coaching Staff

JeremyHillHofstraHempstead, NY – Hofstra University Baseball Coach Patrick Anderson today announced that Jeremy Hill, a veteran of 14 professional seasons, would join the Pride baseball staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

“Jeremy’s experience and his knowledge of the game will have a big impact on our program,” said Anderson. “He is a welcome addition to our staff.”

Top 100 Countdown: 89. Pratt Maynard (NC State)

We continue the countdown today at number 89 with Pratt Maynard of NC State. He is from Franklinton North Carolina and attended South Granville High School. He was a four-time all-state selection while as a senior hitting .351 with seven home runs, 26 runs scored and 29 RBIs and having a 7-2 record with a 0.90 ERA on the mound.

Baseball America releases Top 25 Recruiting Classes

StanfordBaseballBaseball America has released their Top 25 Recruiting Classes for the incoming 2010-2011 freshmen class. Leading the way is the Stanford Cardinal with LSU coming in at number 2. CWS finalist UCLA comes in at number 3 with San Diego and Oregon rounding out the top five.  These polls are always subjective as Collegiate Baseball had Stanford coming in 11th in their top 40 rankings that came out at the end of September. CBB Column: Are Agents Ruining College Baseball?

JoshLuchsSports Illustrated recently wrote an outstanding article on former NFL agent Josh Luchs who on multiple occasions paid potential clients with cash, concert tickets, and/or meals throughout his career in the industry. In light of these allegations it begs the question.  Is this type of activity also going on in college baseball and if so to what extent?

In the past couple of years there have been several players suspended for having improper relationships with agents including a pair of high profile cases involving former Kentucky pitcher James Paxton and former Oklahoma State pitcher Andrew Oliver.

We continue the countdown today at number 90 with Central Michigan pitcher Dietrich Enns. He is from Frankfort Illinois and attended Lincoln Way East High School. He had an outstanding junior season going 7-3 with an ERA of 1.30 as he earned all-conference and all-area honors. He was even better as a sophomore with a 12-0 record with a 1.10 ERA.

Cade Kreuter eligible in 2011 Season and Other Miami (FL) Notes

ArodFieldThe Miami Hurricanes started practice on Thursday after having a disappointing 2010 season which saw them implode against Florida making seven errors including three in the final two innings to miss out on a spot in the College World Series. They will need to replace their entire rotation from 2010 and probably the best hitting catcher in the country in Yasmani Grandal. They also lost starting second baseman Frankie Ratcliff who was suspended from school after being a drug incident back on September 9th when he was found with 101 grams of Marijuana and and 19 vials of HGH. Washington State releases 2011 Schedule

Purdue to raise money for Breast Cancer

PurdueBreastCancerWEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue intercollegiate athletics in conjunction with DS Wood is set to hold a “Take A Swing at Breast Cancer Home Run Derby” fundraiser all day Friday of the upcoming Homecoming Weekend on campus.

From 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, Purdue baseball will open Lambert Field for participants to help raise money for the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority for breast cancer education and awareness. October is breast cancer awareness month.

UNCW releases 2011 Schedule

“We’re looking forward to a very challenging schedule in 2011,” said UNCW Head Coach Mark Scalf. “Our opening weekends will provide us with solid opposition and help us prepare for conference play. In the Hughes Bros. Challenge, we have three quality opponents that give us an early opportunity to play in a similar format as our conference tournament.”

North Florida releases 2011 Schedule

SmokeLavalUNFJACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida officially announced the 2011 baseball schedule that consists of 55 games, including 26 games at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium.

“I feel like we have put together a challenging schedule this season,” head coach Smoke Laval stated. “We have a good balance of games at home and games on the road this season. We play eight games against teams that played in NCAA Regionals last season, including Florida who made it all the way to Omaha [for the College World Series]. Also, we start Atlantic Sun play early this year so right out of the gate the intensity level will be raised. I think this will be a fun season for UNF baseball.”

Top 100 Countdown: Number 91 Colton Murray (Kansas)

Baseball MugsThe CBB continues our countdown to the start of the 2011 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 91 with Kansas RHP Colton Murray. He is from Overland Park Kansas and attended Olathe East High School where he was a three year letterwinner under John McDonald. As a senior, he went 5-1 with a 1.55 ERA while striking out 50 batters in 31 2/3 innings. He also hit .481 with three home runs during 2008 season. He was named all-state selection in 2007 and 2008 while being named Kansas Pitcher of the Year in 2007.
