FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU baseball head coach Jim Schlossnagle announced the 2011 schedule Wednesday. The 56-game slate features 33 home games as well as 15 contests against teams that participated in the NCAA tournament in 2010. The 2011 season will kick off Feb. 18 at home against Kansas.
The Horned Frogs are coming of their most successful season in school history after advancing to their first-ever College World Series. TCU returns 19 letterwinners from 2010, including all three members of the starting rotation and seven of the nine starters in the field.
TCU opens the season with six out of seven games in the month of February at home. Opening weekend is set for Feb 18-20 against Big 12 member, Kansas. The Frogs lone road trip of the month is Feb. 22 at NCAA tournament participant Baylor. TCU returns home the next weekend to take on perennial national powerhouse, Cal State Fullerton Feb. 25-27.
March opens with a home game against Dallas Baptist on the 1st. TCU’s first big road trip of the 2011 season sees the Frogs head west to Lubbock for a three-game series against Texas Tech March 4-6. A four-game homestand awaits the Frogs upon their return as UT Arlington (March 8) and Houston Baptist (March 11-13) makes its way to Lupton Stadium.
Following a four-game road swing that takes the Frogs to UT Arlington (March 15) and MWC foe UNLV (March 18-20), the Frogs return home for a 13-game homestand that will take them through April 10. The 13-game stretch will feature Texas State (March 22), Houston (March 25-27), Stephen F. Austin (March 29), Air Force (April 1-3), UT Pan American (April 5-6) and NCAA tournament participant New Mexico (April 8-10).
A March 12 date against fellow College World Series participant Oklahoma kicks off a five-game road trip. The Frogs will then head to San Diego for the first of two trips to California. The three-game tilt against the Aztecs begins April 15. The road trip concludes April 19 at NCAA tournament participant Texas A&M.
UNLV makes a return trip to Fort Worth March 21-23. Following the weekend series, the Frogs will complete their home-and-home series with Dallas Baptist in Dallas on April 25. Keeping with the trend of wrapping up season series, the Frogs will host Oklahoma on April 26. The month of April concludes with a three-game trip to BYU April 28-30.
The Frogs kick off the month of May with a three-game series at Oklahoma State May 6-8. TCU will close out its home schedule with a five game homestand. It begins with a May 10 meeting against Baylor. Utah will come to Fort Worth the weekend of May 13-15. The home schedule wraps up with NCAA tournament participant Oral Roberts on May 17.
A trip to New Mexico May 19-21 wraps up the 2011 regular season schedule. The Frogs will head to San Diego the week of May 23 as they attempt to defend their 2010 MWC tournament crown.
