Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team will host eight weekend series at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field and play 30 games at the facility during the 2011 season. The home schedule is highlighted by a Sun Belt showdown with Florida Atlantic (April 1-3) and a visit from Rice on May 10.
The defending Sun Belt Conference champions begin the season playing four of the first five weekend series at “The Tigue”. Tony Robichaux’s squad visits Southern Miss (March 4-6) for a weekend series and has mid-week trips to LSU (March 22) and Rice (April 5) and hosts Florida Atlantic, South Alabama and Middle Tennessee in Sun Belt play.
The home schedule features at least 30 games for the second straight season. The squad will begin the season playing eight of the first nine games at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.
The 2011 season, which will mark the 17th campaign under head coach Tony Robichaux, starts Feb. 18-20 with a three-game series against Southeast Missouri State at “The Tigue”.
After a mid-week, home-and-home with Nicholls State (Feb. 22 & 23), the Cajuns host Siena (Feb. 25-27) in a weekend series and face Southern on March 1 to wrap up the season-opening stretch of eight of nine games at “The Tigue”.
The squad’s first weekend away from Lafayette takes place March 4-6 in Hattiesburg, Miss. UL meets Southern Miss that weekend for the lone non-conference road series of the season.
After the USM series, Louisiana returns to “The Tigue” for its final non-conference weekend series March 11-13 against Fordham then ventures into Sun Belt Conference play for the final 10 weekends of the season.
With the departure of New Orleans from the SBC, the conference has done away with the bye weekend and teams begin and end league play with their nearest rival. Louisiana is paired with La.-Monroe and the two teams begin the Sun Belt slate March 18-20 at “The Tigue” and conclude the regular season May 19-21 at Warhawk Field in Monroe.
M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field will be the site of the weekend series featuring the two teams that shared the Sun Belt championship last season as UL and Florida Atlantic face off April 1-3.
In the other Sun Belt series at “The Tigue”, Louisiana hosts South Alabama (April 22-24), UALR (April 29-30) and Middle Tennessee (May 13-15).
The other Sun Belt road series are at Arkansas State (March 25-27), Western Kentucky (April 8-10), FIU (April 15-17) and Troy (May 6-8).
In addition to Nicholls State, the Cajuns will also meet in-state foes McNeese State, Northwestern State, Southern and Southeastern Louisiana in mid-week, home-and-home series. The Cajuns take on LSU at Alex Box Stadium on March 22 and Rice visits “The Tigue” on May 10 to complete a mid-week, home-and-home.
Season Ticket Redemption games are set for March 19 vs. La.-Monroe, April 12 vs. McNeese State and May 10 vs. Rice. Season ticket holders can redeem unused season tickets for additional tickets to the aforementioned games at no charge.
The 2011 Sun Belt Conference Tournament will be held May 25-28 in Monroe at Warhawk Field.
Fans are reminded that for Saturdays in February and March, games at “The Tigue” will begin at 2 p.m. In April and May, Saturday games are scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
