The University of Minnesota will announce that former Golden Gopher great Paul Molitor has agreed to be the chairman of the Siebert Field Legacy Campaign on Saturday, Oct. 30 during the Minnesota-Ohio State football game.

Kevin Patterson hit 11 home runs to claim the individual title of Home Run Derby Champion but once again it is the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County that is the biggest winner from the annual event. The 2010 edition raised $2,060 for the group through donations at the gates and pledges by sponsors and participants.

Volunteering. For many young adults, it’s just another obligation—the kind of thing you do to boost your résumé, put on a graduate school application, to fulfill an athletic program requirement.
But not for the student-athletes on the University of Minnesota’s baseball team. For them, it’s about giving back.
Especially for Kurt Schlangen and Matt Puhl, two of the team’s most dedicated volunteers.
Former Alabama head coach Jim Wells will serve as an assistant baseball coach at Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. Wells served as the Alabama head coach for 12 seasons accumulating a 625-322 (.656) overall record. He led the Crimson Tide to six SEC Tourney crowns, three SEC West Titles, and two overall SEC championships. He also brought the Crimson Tide to the College World Series on three occasions. Before heading to Tuscaloosa, Wells spent five years at Northwestern State as the head coach leading the team to Southland conference championships in 1991, 1993, and 1994.

We continue the countdown today at number 77 with Coastal Carolina’s Daniel Bowman. He is a 6’1 220 pound outfielder from Bridgewater Virginia and attended Turner Ashby High School as he was a four year letterwinner. In his senior campaign, he hit .510 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI as he was named First Team All-State as well as the District, Area and Region Player of the Year. He hit .491 with eight home runs and 35 runs-batted-in his junior season as he helped the Knights to a second-straight state championship in 2007.He also was named to All-State, All-Region and All-District First teams.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Featuring eight games against teams that competed in the 2010 NCAA postseason, nine mid-week contests, a four-game tournament in Beaumont, Texas, and 30 games at Matador Field, head coach Matt Curtis released his 2011 schedule Friday afternoon.
Two of the three scheduled doubleheaders that CSUN will participate in will take place against their first two opponents – Feb. 19 against Seattle and Feb. 26 against Valparaiso. The first game of every doubleheader will start at 11:00 a.m. with the second starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

QUEENS, N.Y. – Head baseball coach Ed Blankmeyer has officially announced the schedule for the 2011 season. The 56-game slate includes the third annual BIG EAST-Big Ten Challenge in Florida and features a total of 11 games against five teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
“This is a very tough schedule,” said Blankmeyer. “We are going to be tested right from the start as we line up against three of the top teams at the BIG EAST-Big Ten Challenge and then go up against a Georgia Tech team that was ranked as high as No. 2 last year. The early season games will prepare us well though for an always difficult BIG EAST schedule.”

We continue the countdown today at number 78 with Illinois State’s Kenny Long. He is 6’0 and only 150 pounds from Fox Grove, Illinois and attended Dundee Crown High School. As a senior, he posted an 11-2 record with a 1.62 ERA. He finished the season with 121 strikeouts and walked only 22 batters in 85.6 innings of work.

HARRISONBURG, Va., Oct. 28, 2010 – James Madison baseball head coach Spanky McFarland on Thursday unveiled a 2011 schedule that is highlighted by 30 home games, including 14 at night, five games against Atlantic Coast Conference teams, and a return to playing series against all 10 Colonial Athletic Association teams in league play.
