Seattle University Media Relations recently sat down with head coach Donny Harrel to preview the Fall Baseball season. Last season was Seattle’s first season in Division 1 baseball and they went a disappointing 11-39. The star of the team was Bryndon Ecklund who led the team with a .352 batting average. Daniel Latham added to VMI Coaching Staff

LEXINGTON, Va. – Daniel Latham, former assistant coach at High Point and 15th-round draft pick of the Minnesota Twins, has been named the new assistant coach for VMI baseball, according to information released by the program Monday. Latham’s primary responsibilities will be developing and mentoring the Keydet pitchers.
High Point adds Joe Mercurio to Coaching Staff

The High Point University baseball team has added Joe Mercurio as a volunteer assistant coach, head coach Craig Cozart announced Monday. Mercurio was an All-Conference catcher at the University of Maine and spent last summer coaching the Glens Fall Golden Eagles in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.

Vol Baseball to Participate in Light the Night Walk

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Tennessee baseball team will help raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and participate in the Light the Night Walk on the UT campus at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21. The Volunteers have exceeded their fundraising goals each of the past three years, raising almost $25,000 in the process.
LSU Baseball Visits Young Fan

BATON ROUGE – Members of the LSU baseball team visited with seven-year-old Michael Smith Thursday at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
Michael was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a condition in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped. He has also been diagnosed with Chiari malformation, a structural defect in the cerebellum of the brain.
Creighton adds Craig Moore to Coaching Staff

OMAHA, Neb. – Head Creighton baseball coach Ed Servais announced today the official hiring of Craig Moore as the newest Bluejay baseball assistant coach, taking over for Brent Alwine, who accepted a similar position at Western Michigan. A native of Fremont, Neb., Moore comes to Creighton following a four-year stint as head coach at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Moore will work primarily with the outfielders and hitters.
Indiana’s Alex Dickerson Update
All-American Alex Dickerson recently sat down with the Indiana Media Relations staff to discuss his Team USA experience this summer, his teammates and the upcoming fall. Dickerson was named an All-American in several publications in 2010 after hitting .419 with 24 homers and 75 RBI. You can check out the full interview with Alex below.
Florida’s Jeremy Foley a model for College Sports?
The New York Times recently took a look at all the top athletic programs in the country looking in depth at the athletic program at the University of Florida. They have seen a major boost to athletic funding over the last couple of years including building a 15 million dollar women’s lacrosse facility that hadn’t played a game yet. Foley is the same guy that fired current Arizona head coach Andy who averaged 40 victories a season over seven seasons, winning two Southeastern Conference championships and appearing in five N.C.A.A. tournaments and two College World Series. He also fired Pat McMahon after going 202-113-1 in six seasons including an appearance in the 2005 CWS Championship Series.
Rays Manager Joe Maddon receives Honorary Doctorate from Lafayette
Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon was honored by Lafayette with an Honorary Doctorate degree on Thursday night. Maddon dropped out of Lafayette 35 years ago and ended up working his way up to being the manager of the Tampa Bay Rays. He was originally recruited as a football player but ended up being a two sport athlete as he starred on the baseball diamond at second base.
