Jose Vazquez stays at Bethune-Cookman

That day is not this one.

After much consideration, the Bethune-Cookman University Associate Head Baseball Coach announced he has turned down the head coaching position at Florida A&M, and remain in the Wildcat program he played for during its most successful season in 2002 and has help developed into a respected post-season Division I contender.

Q and A with UNC alum Dustin Ackley

DustinAckleyUNC Former North Carolina infielder Dustin Ackley has been on the fast track to the major leagues since leading North Carolina to the College World Series in 2009. He was the number 2 overall selection in the 2009 MLB Draft behind Stephen Strasburg. He started the 2010 season in Double A with the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx where he played in 82 games hitting .263 with two homers and 28 RBI as he adjusted to a new position at second base. He ended up being promoted to the Tacoma Rainiers where he played in 52 games with a .274 batting average while hitting five homers and driving in 23 runs.

Baseball America’s Top 30 Cape Cod Baseball League Prospects

CCBLLogo Baseball America, considered by many to be the bible of amateur baseball, every season ranks the top 30 prospects who performed in the Cape Cod Baseball League.

Not surprisingly, this summer’s top prospect was highly-touted Anthony Ranaudo (LSU), the 6-7, 230-pound right-hander who was nearly perfect for the Brewster Whitecaps with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA before signing with the Boston Red Sox. He was the 39th overall selection in the June MLB draft.

Jesse Lancaster added to ECU Coaching Staff

BillyGodwinECU GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jesse Lancaster has been named the volunteer baseball coach at East Carolina University according to an announcement from head coach Billy Godwin Wednesday.

Lancaster, who will work directly outfielders and coach first base, was a four-year letterwinner at Mount Olive College and helped the Trojans capture the 2008 NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship where he was named to the all-tournament team after batting .457 in the National Finals. The three-time captain and all-conference performer was also a member of four Conference Carolina Championship squads.

Rick Rembielak added to Georgia Tech Coaching Staff

RembielakGT ATLANTA - Rick Rembielak has been named volunteer assistant baseball coach at Georgia Tech, as announced by head coach Danny Hall Thursday. Rembielak comes to the Flats after most recently serving five years as the head coach at Wake Forest from 2004-2009.

Rembielak will be responsible for the development of Georgia Tech’s infielders, while assisting Hall and hitting coach Bryan Prince in all aspects of the game. Rembielak brings a wealth of college coaching experience to Georgia Tech, including head coaching stints at Wake Forest (2004-09) and Kent State University (1994-2004) where he compiled a combined 515 wins at the Division I level.

Rice releases 2011 Schedule

GrahamRice HOUSTON – With no shortage of tough competition and what may prove to be one of the best slate of home games in the country, the Rice Owls’ baseball schedule for the upcoming 2011 season was announced on Friday (Sept. 10).

The 56-game regular season schedule features 32 home games at Reckling Park, including a pair of dynamic three-game home sets against national powerhouse teams from the Pac-10 conference in back-to-back weekends to start the year. Rice opens the 2011 campaign at home with Stanford on Feb. 18-20 followed by Southern California on Feb. 25-27. There are a total of 38 dates in the city of Houston when including games across town at the University of Houston and downtown at Minute Maid Park in the annual College Classic (Mar. 4-6).

Miami infielder Frank Ratcliff Arrested

ratcliff mug Miami sophomore infielder Frank Ratcliff was arrested on Wednesday by Coral Gables detectives. He is being charged with trying to sell marijuana to undercover police officers on university grounds. The police were acting on a tip and organized to purchase 21 grams of marijuana from Mr. Ratcliff who went to his apartment to retrieve the substance where he was arrested by the police. The police department then conducted a search of Ratcliff’s residence where they found another 101 grams of marijuana and 19 vials of HGH. The University of Miami has suspended Ratcliff from all athletic activities according to a UM press release.

Tim Leary Named Cal State Northridge Assistant Baseball Coach

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Northridge head coach Matt Curtis has announced the hiring of Tim Leary as the Matadors’ new assistant baseball coach.

“I am excited to add Tim Leary to the Matador Baseball staff. I believe his track record of success at the collegiate and professional level as a player is unmatched among Division-I pitching coaches,” stated Curtis. “He’s earned great success at the collegiate level as a pitching coach in his time at UCLA and is a proven winner at every level. ”

The former first-round Major League Baseball draft pick will work primarily with the pitching staff and assist Curtis with recruiting and fundraising. Leary worked with Loyola Marymount’s pitching staff in 2006 and assisted the staff at UCLA from 1997-2000 and again in 2004 as the team’s pitching coach.

Carlos James named Head Coach at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Carlos James PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Carlos James to the position of head baseball coach.

James arrives to UAPB after spending the previous two seasons at the University of Arkansas-Monticello where he served in the same capacity. The Pine Bluff native took over the struggling UAM Baseball team and turned them into a legitimate conference contender during his two years at the helm of program.
