Cal-State Northridge adds Shaun Larkin to Coaching Staff

ShaunLarkin NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Cal State Northridge baseball head coach Matt Curtis announced the hiring of Shaun Larkin as an assistant coach, effective immediately.

Larkin will work primarily with the infielders and hitters, assist with the team’s strength and conditioning program, and monitor the academic eligibility of his student-athletes.

Cal Looking to Cut Sports? Is Baseball Next?

CalBaseball The San Francisco Chronicle obtained a 15 page report which stated that Cal-Berkley’s Athletic Department needed to cut between $10-13 million from the annual deficit. The Chancellor’s Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics at Berkeley, composed of four members of the Berkeley faculty and four prominent alumni did a study of the deficit and came to an interesting decision. They stated that five to seven teams from the current offering of 27 teams should be eliminated. The only “safe” sports are football, men’s and women’s basketball, and women’s volleyball which are all required for membership in the Pac-10.

JedBradleyGT Kyle Tait of RamblinWreck.com recently had a chance to set down with Georgia Tech lefthander pitcher Jed Bradley. He was recently named the fourth best pro prospect in the Cape Cod Baseball League this summer. He ended up starting six games with a 2-3 overall record while having an ERA of 1.98. Jeff Mercer added to Michigan Coaching Staff

Stanford Baseball releases 2011 Schedule

MarkMarquessStanford STANFORD, Calif.– Stanford Baseball announced its 2011 schedule, with road trips scheduled to Rice, Vanderbilt and Texas to start the season and home series with Michigan, Long Beach State, Oregon State, UCLA, Washington and Arizona.

Stanford will host 27 home contests this season, beginning with a Tuesday opener against Cal on February 22. Fireworks Night will be the series opener with Washington on May 6. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-STANFORD or going on gostanford.com.

UConn Baseball Setting High Goals

UConnLogo The UConn Huskies had a historic 2010 season, which included hosting a regional for the first time since 1977. The Huskies fell short of a Regional Title as they lost to Oregon twice while defeating Central Connecticut State.

With the goal of hosting a regional accomplished and most of their lineup returning, UConn has a chance to establish themselves as the lone Northeast powerhouse in college baseball.

Omaha or Bust for Oregon?

OregonHuddle The Oregon Ducks had a remarkable 2010 season as they went 40-23 making the Norwich Regional Final before losing to Florida State. One of the biggest question marks is who will replace Eddie Rodriguez behind the plate next season. They have transfer Brett Hambright, freshman Aaron Jones and freshman Stefan Sabol all competing for the starting spot. If they can find the answer behind the plate then the Ducks will be able to contend for a spot in Omaha in 2011.

Three Former Trojans return to USC

AlbertoConcepcionUSC LOS ANGELES – Three former USC baseball players have been named undergraduate assistant coach, interim head coach Frank Cruz announced today. Morgan Ensberg, Alberto Concepcion and Cyle Hankerd will be undergraduate coaches for the 2011 season.

Ensberg played eight seasons in the major leagues (2000-08) for Houston, San Diego and the New York Yankees (he played at the Triple-A level in 2001). The third baseman played in 731 games in the majors with a .263 career average, 110 home runs and 347 RBI. His best season came in 2005 when he played in the All-Star Game for Houston after batting .283 with 36 home runs and 101 RBI.

Cal State Fullerton Releases 2011 Baseball Schedule

Fullerton, Calif. – The four-time national champion Cal State Fullerton Titan baseball program looks to have yet another challenging road ahead as the coaching staff unveiled its 2011 schedule Monday (Sept. 13) afternoon.

"We are very proud of the schedule we have put together for the 2011 season," said fourth-year head coach Dave Serrano. "Our philosophy has always been to challenge our teams with our schedules, and this year’s is no different."
