San Diego to Help Launch Miracle League Fall Season

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - For the second year in a row, the University of San Diego baseball team will volunteer and help launch the fall baseball season for the Miracle League of San Diego.   Last year, USD baseball assisted with the assisting with the celebration of Miracle League’s Opening Day, which included event registration, a fan fest and home run derby.

Arkansas Baseball at Opening Day of Miracle League

MiracleLeague FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas baseball team joined a group of volunteers Saturday in celebration of Opening Day for the Miracle League in Northwest Arkansas. Junior catcher James McCann and sophomore pitcher DJ Baxendale, both members of Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, helped organize the Razorbacks’ participation.

Former Texas A&M RHP Barret Loux Works Out

Barret Loux worked out for 14 MLB teams on Friday afternoon in College Station, Texas. He was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the sixth overall pick but failed his physical due to shoulder and elbow concerns according to multiple reports. MLB declared Loux a free agent and gave the Diamondbacks compensatory picks. You can check out the MyFoxHouston report below which fails to talk about the reason the Diamondbacks failed to sign him.

UTSA’s Sherman Corbett goes to bat for Local Charities

ShermanCorbettUTSA SAN ANTONIO UTSA head baseball coach Sherman Corbett took part in the Wounded Heroes Baseball Classic at Wolff Stadium on Sept. 4, which helped raise money for the Hope4Heroes organization.

Corbett, who joined forces with the likes of Gaylord Perry, Rollie Fingers and Jeff Kent, competed for the Legends squad, which was made up of members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA). The opposite dugout featured the Heroes team, a squad made up of military veterans who were injured while in active duty.

Alabama releases 2011 Schedule

MitchGaspard The Alabama baseball team has released their 2011 Baseball schedule according to a report from The Tuscaloosa News. They will open the season with a three game home series against Alcorn State starting on February 18th before hosting Alabama State in a mid-week series. On February 25th, they will head to South Alabama to take part in the tournament hosted by the Jaguars.

Tennessee Baseball part of NCAA Probe

ToddRaliegh Tennessee Athletic Director Mike Hamilton confirmed that the baseball program is part of the NCAA ongoing investigation of the university. According to sources with GoVolsXtra, the probe involves two issues which are not major violations. The Vols went 30-26 last season while going 12-18 in the SEC missing the postseason tournament for the second straight season under Todd Raleigh.

Former Louisville Player involved in Shooting

IsiahHowesLouisville Isaiah Howes who played on the 2007 Louisville Baseball team which qualified for the College World Series shot and killed former Louisville football player Daniel Covington after a disagreement early Thursday morning. Howes led the 2007 team in all three triple crown categories hitting .391 with 18 homer and 69 RBI starting all 71 games on the year. He hasn’t appeared in a minor league game since the 2007 season when he played in 39 games while hitting .193 with two homers and 10 RBI.

Brett Richardson named Interim Head Coach at FAMU

New Mexico releases 2011 Schedule

RayBiminghamUNM University of New Mexico head baseball coach Ray Birmingham has announced the 2011 Lobo baseball schedule. The team will take on some of the best college teams in the nation, including 2010 College World Series participants Arizona State, Oklahoma and TCU. The Lobos are scheduled to play 24 games at Isotope Park.

“As we march toward Omaha, Lobo baseball will take another giant leap into the `shark-infested waters’ with a schedule that rivals any team schedule in the country,” said Birmingham.

Southern Miss releases 2011 Schedule

Ohio State releases 2011 Schedule

OhioStateSchedule COLUMBUS, Ohio – First-year Ohio State baseball head coach Greg Beals announced the team’s 2011 schedule today. Highlights include home Big Ten series against Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State and Northwestern, a first-ever appearance at Bill Davis Stadium by Oklahoma State for a two-game series, and three games as part of the Big Ten/Big East Challenge to open the season.
