UNLV releases 2011 Schedule

TimChambers LAS VEGAS – The UNLV baseball team released its schedule for the upcoming 2011 season Wednesday afternoon, announced first-year head coach Tim Chambers.

The Rebels will play 30 of their 56 games in the friendly confines of Wilson Stadium, including 15 of their first 21 to start the year. UNLV will also square up against six teams that qualified for postseason play a year ago, including conference rivals TCU and New Mexico for six games apiece.

Indiana State Assistant Coach Tyler Herbst Arrested

UPDATED ON SEPTEMBER 24th
TylerHerbst Indiana State assistant coach Tyler Herbst was arrested in a prostitution ring back in July. He is being charged with solicitation of a sexual act. The $250 he offered for the act was taken into custody, according to reports. Herbst is still listed on the Indiana State coaching staff and the school has not made comment on the situation.

UPDATE on 9/16 at 9:45 P.M.: According to sources, Tyler Herbst has been fired from the coaching staff at Indiana State.

UPDATE on 9/24 at 1:20 A.M.: It appears that our source was wrong about Herbst being let go by Indiana State. A report by WHTI out of Terre Haute, Indiana says that Tyler Herbst is still a member of the coaching staff. The Indiana State Athletic Department was also contacted by WHTI but had no comment on the matter.  There is also a report from the Indiana State message board Sycamore Pride that Herbst was seen at a JUCO game on the campus of Indiana State on September 22nd.

New bat rules to change College Baseball?

MikeBiancoOleMiss Chase Parham of RebelGrove.com (Ole Miss Rivals Site) has an excellent article about how the new bat changes are affecting college coaches for the upcoming 2011 season. The NCAA put in new testing standards for this upcoming season which have significantly affected the “pop” in the bat. According to Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco he has seen several full batting practices fail to yield a homer. This is very interesting and will change the way College Baseball is played with more Texas style games of bunting and stealing while we will see less “Gorilla Ball” tactics in the spring.

San Diego State releases 2011 Schedule

SDSUStadium The San Diego State Aztecs recently released their 2011 Baseball Schedule which features many key matchups.

They will open the season February 18th when they face off against Winthrop University. The following day, they will face off against San Diego or Vanderbilt before ending the weekend with another game against Winthrop.

Air Force releases 2011 Schedule

AirForceSchedule USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Head coach Maj. Mike Kazlausky announced the 2011 Air Force baseball schedule today. The 55-game schedule features 20 home games and non-conference road trips to six different states.

The Falcons will play a full Division I schedule for just the second time in program history (other year was 2005). Air Force will play non-conference series in the states of Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Kansas and California. Read the rest of this entry »

Georgia Southern releases 2011 Schedule

GASouthernPhoto STATESBORO, Ga. – On deck for the Georgia Southern Baseball team in 2011 are 18 games against teams that qualified for the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament. In the 2011 schedule that was announced today (September 22), the Eagles will face two new opponents and make a trip to Gainesville, Fla., to face the Gators for the first time since 1993. In total, 31 games will be contested at J.I. Clements Stadium beginning with the season-opener against George Washington on Friday, February 18 at 6 p.m.

TCU’s Randy Mazey promoted to Associate Head Coach

TCU Baseball FORT WORTH, Texas - Randy Mazey, assistant baseball coach at TCU, has been promoted to associate head coach, Horned Frogs head coach Jim Schlossnagle announced.

“This is a well deserved promotion and honor for Coach Mazey,” remarked Schlossnagle. “As I’ve always said, he is one of the best pure baseball coaches in the game today, at any level. He has done a tremendous job on the field and will take a more prominent role in recruiting as well. We are excited to continue to have he, his wife, Amanda and their two children as a part of the TCU family.”

Cleveland State releases 2011 Schedule

ClevelandState The Cleveland State baseball program recently released their 2011 schedule. They will open the season on February 18th at Longwood for the first of a three game series. The following weekend, they will head down to UNC-Greensboro for a three game set. The other two non-conference road trips see the Vikings visiting University of Alabama-Birmingham and Cincinnati for three game series. The only home non-conference series is against Bowling Green on March 19th and 20th.
