Buster Posey continues to Lead on the Field

BusterPoseyFSU One of our favorite players since I started this site has been Buster Posey who is now the everyday starting catcher with the San Francisco Giants. He made the transition before his sophomore season from shortstop to catcher after the recommendation of FSU assistant coach Mike Martin Jr. He was able to make the transition seamless and now is considered the top young catcher in the league.

Fall Practice Q & A with TCU’s Jim Schlossnagle

TCU Baseball TCU Media Relations recently caught up with baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle to discuss how fall practice is going and expectations going into next season. TCU made their first appearance in the College World Series in 2010 finishing in the final four before bowing out to UCLA. They bring back a veteran squad in 2011 and with the way the NCAA has been matching up teams in the Super Regionals, Texas or Rice should be worried that their path to the CWS will likely be blocked by the Horned Frogs.

Ryan Connolly named Virginia Tech Assistant Coach

TCBB Roundtable on New Bats

MetalBats Chase Parham last week had an interesting article about how the new bats are changing the college game. (FULL ARTICLE) It has always been an interesting debate on whether the metal bats were juiced too much, causing safety issues and leading to higher scoring games. The early feedback on the new bat standards is that there is much less “pop” in the bat, making scoring much more difficult in the 2011 season.

The College Baseball Blog recently surveyed a smattering of college coaches around the country regarding use of metal bats. The opinions are drastically different depending if you were a power hitting team in the past or a team that believed in good pitching and defense to win ball games. Harvard holds Scout Day

Indiana Baseball checks in on a pair of Freshmen

indiana-logo Indiana Media Relations continues their series of interviews with freshmen pitchers Aaron Slegers and Ryan Halstead.

Slegers possesses a mammoth 6-foot-9, 245-pound frame and is still growing into his body. The righty hurler went 6-1 with a 1.32 ERA in his junior season for Notre Dame Prep, striking out 43 in 41 innings of work. As a senior, he threw just two innings due to growth issues, but struck out five of the six batters he faced. He helped the team to a state runner-up finish in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

La Tech opens Fall Practice/Brent Porche added to Coaching Staff

WadeSimoneauxLATech RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux named Brent Porche the programs new volunteer assistant as the Bulldogs opened fall practice at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park Friday afternoon.

“We’re going to ease into fall practice and it’s mainly to give them reps and see as much as we can from our dual players,” said Simoneaux. “We’ve got nine guys that are position players that also pitch and we need to determine whether or not they are going to continue to do both or choose one or another.”

Miami (OH) releases 2011 Schedule

MiamiOHBaseball OXFORD, Ohio — Tournaments at the College of Charleston and UNC Wilmington, plus the annual spring break trip to Russ Matt Invitational, highlight the 2011 Miami baseball schedule, Head Coach Dan Simonds announced today. The RedHawks also face traditional local rivals Cincinnati, Xavier, Wright State and Dayton with a noted addition — Miami travels to Columbus to face Ohio State on Wednesday, April 6.
