Ryan Connolly named Virginia Tech Assistant Coach

RyanConnollyND BLACKSBURG, Va. – Ryan Connolly, a former standout at Notre Dame, has been announced as the newest addition to the Virginia Tech baseball staff. Connolly will serve as a volunteer assistant replacing Mike Kunigonis who was recently promoted to full time assistant.

Connolly, a native of Binghamton, N.Y., led the Fighting Irish last season with a .335 batting average including team highs of 11 home runs and 38 RBI. He also led the team in hits (66), doubles (15), triples (2), total bases (118), slugging percentage (.438) and hit by pitch (20). He was a four-year monogram winner and a two-time captain.

Connolly and his mother, Penny, are co-chairs of the Michael E. Connolly Endownment for Lung Cancer Research (named in honor of his deceased father).

“Ryan will be a tremendous addition to our staff working primarily with our catchers.” said Virginia Tech head Coach Pete Hughes. “His experience as a highly successful student and athlete will be an immediate asset to our program. Being voted captain by his peers on two occasions, speaks volumes of the type of person we have joining our Hokieball family.”
