PrincetonBaseball PRINCETON – A trip to LSU, new opponents during Spring Break and 10 home dates highlight the 2011 Princeton baseball schedule, announced today by Scott Bradley, the Robert H. B. Baldwin ’42 Head Coach of Baseball at Princeton.

Princeton opens the season with a trip to LSU. Princeton has made the trip to Baton Rouge once before, opening the 1976 season in Louisiana with a three-game set. That year Princeton won the opener before dropping the next two. This year, Princeton will face an NCAA tournament team from a season ago that finished the season ranked 23rd nationally.

The following weekend Princeton embarks on its weeklong trip through Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. The trip will look a little different than it has in past years with a mix of new and old opponents, plus a different order of games. The week starts with four games in Richmond. The Tigers will start with two games against Holy Cross and finish with two against Virginia Commonwealth.

Princeton and Holy Cross have met 23 times before but not since the 1940 season and the Tigers and Rams will play their second-ever series, the first of which came in 2004 when each team won two games.

Princeton will continue its weeklong trip with weekday games at North Carolina, UNC Greensboro and North Carolina A&T, all regular stops during Princeton’s Spring Break trips. The week will conclude with three games at Georgetown. It will mark the first games between the Tigers and Hoyas since the 1996 season. Princeton continues its pre-Ivy League schedule the following weekend with two doubleheaders at Navy.

The Tigers open their home schedule on March 30 at Clarke Field with a non-league game against Seton Hall before jumping into the Ivy League schedule three days later with home doubleheaders against Yale and Brown. The Tigers will remain home the following Tuesday to host Rutgers before playing their next 10 games away from campus.

Princeton visits Dartmouth and Harvard on April 9-10 and plays a road mid-week game at Monmouth before traveling to Penn for a pair of doubleheaders on April 16-17. This year Penn and Columbia are switched on the schedule with Princeton playing the Quakers first, followed by the Lions at home. Princeton visits St. John’s on the Tuesday in between the Penn and Columbia weekends.

The Tigers will host Rider on April 27 in their final mid-week game before the regular-season ending home-and-home series with Cornell. Princeton hosts Friday’s doubleheader and then visits Ithaca on Sunday, May 1.
