YSULogo Youngstown – Youngstown State head baseball coach Rich Pasquale announced Sept. 17 that Bill Herman has joined his staff as an assistant coach.

Herman will be working with Pasquale on coaching position players. Herman was a three-time all-conference infielder at Slippery Rock, and he was an assistant coach at Shippensburg in 2010.

"We are very excited to have Billy join our staff," Pasquale said. "He brings the experience of having a great career at Slippery Rock offensively and defensively. He is a very organized person, and he is very passionate about the game of baseball. He is also a person who does things the right way."

As a player at Division II Slippery Rock in Western Pennsylvania, he missed just five games in four years and batted at least .300 every season. He played in a school-record 202 games while posting 225 hits, 105 RBIs and 396 assists in his career for the Rock.

He was a team captain in 2009 when he was the 17th-toughest player in the NCAA to strike out. He batted .328 as Slippery Rock went 36-15. In 2008, Herman hit .337 while earning Atlantic Region All-Region Tournament Team honors. He was also a Rawlings Gold Glove winner at third base as a junior. Herman hit .300 as a sophomore in 2007 and .318 as a freshman in 2006.

In the summer circuit, Herman played for league championship teams in the Florida Collegiate Instructional League and the New York Collegiate Baseball League.

In addition to his year on the bench at Shippensburg, Herman has worked numerous camps, including the All-Star Baseball Academy Western Pennsylvania College Camp, the Best in Virginia Showcase Camp, the Slippery Rock Summer Camp and the Slippery Rock Winter Hitting Clinic.

Herman graduated cum laude from Slippery Rock in 2009. A four-year student on the Dean’s list, he holds a Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Health and Physical Education.
