Christy, a native of Lincoln, Neb., spent the 2010 season as a catcher for the Wichita Wingnuts.

"We are very pleased that Jeff Christy has decided to become our volunteer assistant at Wichita State for this year," Stephenson said.  "He brings a great deal of experience and knowledge with him and will add significantly to the quality of our coaching staff."

In 2010 for the Wingnuts, Christy was named an All-Star and hit .289 with 40 runs, 82 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 39 RBI.  Before coming to Wichita, he played four years of professional baseball in the Minnesota Twins organization and made it to triple-A Rochester in 2008 and 2009.

Christy was drafted in the sixth round by the Twins in 2006 after playing at the University of Nebraska in 2005-06.  While at NU, he played in 123 games and hit .260 with 16 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 64 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

In 2003-04, Christy played at Barton County Community College and was a first team all-Jayhawk League selection in 2004 and an honorable mention choice in 2003.

Christy is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 2007 from the University of Nebraska.

Jeff and his wife Michelle reside in Wichita.

Christy replaces Brandon Hall, who was named an assistant coach at Newman University.

"We wish Brandon great success in his coaching career and are very thankful for what he has done for Wichita State Baseball," Stephenson said.
