Fresno’s Beiden Field gets Upgrades
FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE
FRESNO, Calif. – Beiden Field is home to the Fresno State baseball team and was first built in 1985. It has seen many improvements over the years and in 2010 the changes continue with a new turf halo and sound system. The new installations at Beiden Field were made possible with the help from the Dugout Club.
"Sport Clubs such as the Dugout Club have been supporting Fresno State Athletics for decades," said Fresno State Interim Associate Athletic Director for Development Coleman Barnes. "Most recently, the support of Dugout Club members has assisted with the placement of a new sound system at Beiden Field and the soon-to-be completed infield halo project. Sport Clubs are fan-based organizations overseen by the Bulldog Foundation and established to increase enthusiasm for Fresno State teams and enhance the student-athlete intercollegiate experience. Though sport clubs are not primarily fundraising driven, they may provide resources for designated projects. Sport club memberships begin at only $50, but contributions of any amount can be made directly to designated sport club projects. As always, we extend our thanks to the Dugout Club, and all of our Sport Clubs for their ongoing support of Bulldog Athletics and our 450-plus student-athletes."

Cal Baseball Thoughts from TCBB Staff
Yesterday, it was announced that the University of California was eliminating five athletic programs. Cal isn’t the first or last school that has cut a baseball program but is the first in a long time from an elite conference. I was personally involved during my college days of an athletic department study on the feasibility of adding a baseball program. My alma mater New Hampshire still doesn’t have baseball and ended up cutting three sports a year after the study. I asked our TCBB writers and contributors to share their thoughts on Cal cutting these five sports.

Cal to cut Baseball
According to a tweet from Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com (Link), Cal will cut the Baseball program after the 2011 season. I am not that surprised about the move as the school was looking into the financial health of the entire athletic department a couple of weeks ago according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle. (Link). We are currently working on a full article about the decision to cut the baseball team. It should be up soon.
Buster Posey continues to Lead on the Field
One of our favorite players since I started this site has been Buster Posey who is now the everyday starting catcher with the San Francisco Giants. He made the transition before his sophomore season from shortstop to catcher after the recommendation of FSU assistant coach Mike Martin Jr. He was able to make the transition seamless and now is considered the top young catcher in the league.
