NECBL Playoffs Recap for August 8th

The Danbury Westerners got a two run single by Brett Knief (UNC) in the seventh inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and lead the Westerners to a 2-1 victory over the North Adams SteepleCats in the final game of their Western Division Series. Danbury right-handed starting pitcher Mike Hauschild (Dayton) was masterful giving up three hits while giving up one run on three walks while striking out 13 batters. (FULL BOX SCORE) Danbury will head on the road for Game 1 of the NECBL Championship Series on Sunday at the North Shore Navigators.

Team USA falls 4-3 in extra innings to Cuba

Tokyo, Japan – Alfredo Despaigne hit two home runs including a walk-off three-run home run in the 10th inning to give Cuba a 4-3 win over USA in the gold medal game Saturday night at the V FISU World University Baseball Championships inside Meiji Jingu Stadium.

South Carolina Assistant Coach Chad Holbrook receives New Contract

ChadHolbrook Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook received a multi-year contract approved by the University’s Board of Trustees on Friday afternoon. Holbrook, who has been with the Gamecocks for two years, was granted a three-year contract, taking him through the 2013 season. Holbrook’s contract is worth $160,000 annually.

"It’s an honor to be a part of the baseball program at South Carolina," said associate head coach Chad Holbrook. "I’m so thankful to Ray Tanner, athletics director Eric Hyman and President Pastides for allowing me to coach at such a proud university and baseball program. We will continue to do all we can to ensure that our program competes at the highest level. It is my goal to be a coach at South Carolina a very long time. My family loves Columbia and we love calling South Carolina home."

Rutgers adds Bobby Brownlie to Coaching Staff

Brownlie will join the Rutgers staff as a student assistant coach.

04.16.10.sports.baseball North Shore Navigators LHP Michael Johnson (Dartmouth) allowed three hits while striking out four batters and walking only one in 8.2 innings to lead the Navigators to a 2-0 victory over the Newport Gulls in the second game in the Eastern Division Championship Series.

Cal Ripken League All-Stars tie Juncos 4-4 in Puerto Rico

At Estadio Jose Pepito Bonano in Guaynabo, the Ripken League Stars played to a 4-4 tie after ten innings with the Juncos, a team of college, junior college, and Puerto Rican Double-A ballplayers, when the Juncos ran out of pitchers for the game.

Down 1-0, Alex Frederick (University of North Carolina-Greensboro/Baltimore Redbirds) doubled home Stuart MacInnes (University of Texas-Pan American/Rockville Express), who tripled with two outs in the second inning, to tie the game.

Steve Bieser named Assistant Coach at Southeast Missouri

SteveBieser CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri head baseball coach Mark Hogan has announced the hiring Steve Bieser as his pitching coach.

"Steve is a great hire for our program," said Coach Hogan. "Being able to bring one of our alumni back to work with our organization is very exciting. His successes at every level of baseball speak for themselves. His leadership and player development skills are exceptional and we welcome Steve and his family back to Cape Girardeau."

UCLA Baseball Releases 2011 Schedule

UCLASchedule LOS ANGELES – The UCLA baseball team has released its 2011 schedule, which features 25 games against teams that advanced to the 2010 NCAA Tournament, as announced by seventh-year head coach John Savage. UCLA opens the season with a three-game home series against San Francisco on Friday, Feb. 18.
