COCA COLA PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Austin Wood, Cotuit RHP
Cotuit swept this week’s pair of awards, as Kettleers ace Austin Wood (St. Petersburg) was named Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week for the second time. Wood, who started and threw a scoreless inning for the Western Division in this year’s All-Star game, previously had captured the honor in the fifth week of the season.

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 23 Orleans Firebirds 10
Orleans starting pitcher Martin Viramontes (Loyola-Marymount) had one of the worst pitching performances in recent memory on Monday evening in the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. He ended up lasting only 0.2 innings giving up nine hits, one walk, and ten runs (all earned) as the Red Sox cruised to the 23-10 victory to take a 1-0 series lead.
Michael Williams (Kentucky) went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs as the Danbury Westerners used a five run third inning to defeat the North Shore Navigators 9-3 on Monday night.
The Westerners pounded out 16 hits with Michael Williams (Kentucky), Jim Brennan (St. John’s) and Brian Kownacki (Fordham) each collecting three hits.

SOUTH YARMOUTH —- Joe Panik (St. John’s) did everything right during his stint in the Cape Cod Baseball League, both on and off the field. As a result, he was rewarded with the Daniel J. Silva Sportsmanship Award before the first game of the East Division playoffs at Red Wilson Field.

MALIBU, Calif. – Former Texas Tech catcher Cooper Fouts will serve as Pepperdine’s volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Fouts comes to Malibu after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach at the College of Southern Nevada; where he worked with 2010 Golden Spikes Award winner and No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Harper.

SOUTH YAMOUTH —- For the second straight season and third time in his Cape League career, Scott Pickler has been named the Mike Curran Manager of the Year.
Pickler led the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox to the league’s best record and the East Division championship for the second consecutive year. The division title is the fifth for Y-D under his direction.
The Orleans Firebirds scored a single run in the top of the ninth inning to tie up the game at four and a single run in the tenth to pick up a 5-4 victory over the Brewster Whitecaps to advance in the Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs. They will take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the next round.
