Indiana’s Tracy Smith discusses the Summer

TracySmithIU Indiana baseball head coach Tracy Smith recently sat down with IUHoosiers to update his players progress this summer. The Hoosiers are coming off a 28-27 season in 2010 where they went .500 in Big Ten play with a 12-12 record. They will be led next season by 2010 Big Ten Player of the Year Alex Dickerson who hit .419 with 24 homers and 75 RBI. He spent the summer with the 2010 USA Collegiate National Team where he appeared in 14 games (10 starts) while hitting .250 with a homer and eight RBI. He started the summer with the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod Baseball League which he played nine games hitting .500 with a homer and seven RBI.

Chuck Ristano added to Notre Dame Coaching Staff

ChuckRistano NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Chuck Ristano, who helped lead Monmouth to a pair of Northeast Conference (NEC) Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, has been hired as the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Notre Dame, first-year head baseball coach Mik Aoki announced Friday.

"I am honored to join Coach Aoki’s inaugural staff here at Notre Dame," said Ristano. "This program has always been one of tremendous character and class. Notre Dame has been successful on and off the field. I look forward to our continued work to reestablish a championship tradition."

It isn’t often that I run across a great video about College Baseball but today we present you with Alex Cortez from San Bernardino Valley College. This past season, he hit .269 with a homer and 18 RBI in an unimpressive season in which his team went 17-17. You can check out the video below.

Covey declines deal after Diabetes Diagnosis

Covey Dylan Covey was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers but ended up having his plans change. Last Friday, when he was four days away from signing with the Brewers, he was diagnosed with Diabetes. He decided that he had to learn how to deal with the disease in college at the University of San Diego instead of dealing with it during a minor league baseball career.

Ryan Mau added to Navy’s Coaching Staff

RyanMauVMI ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos announced Thursday (Aug. 19) the addition of Ryan Mau to the coaching staff. As an assistant coach, Mau will work with the Mids’ pitchers and comes to the Naval Academy after five seasons at VMI.

"We are very excited to have Ryan here at Navy," said Kostacopoulos. "He brings a great deal of enthusiasm and talent to not only our program, but to the entire Naval Academy."

Rusty McNamara added to Hawaii Coaching Staff

rp_primary_mcnamara_hired HONOLULU – University of Hawai‘i Rainbow baseball head coach Mike Trapasso announced the hiring of Rusty McNamara as an assistant baseball coach Thursday.

McNamara comes to Hawai‘i after coaching three seasons at the University of California, Riverside. During his team at UCR, McNamara was the hitting coach, first base coach and was in charge of outfielders.

Sacred Heart releases 2011 Schedule

sacred heart The Sacred Heart Pioneers have released their 2011 schedule which opens up on February 25th for a three game series against Bethune-Cookman. The following weekend, they will start a eight game road trip through Louisiana playing Southeastern Louisiana for four games, LSU once, and the heading to Mississippi State.

T.J. Bruce added to UCLA Coaching Staff

TJBruce LOS ANGELES – T.J. Bruce, a former player and assistant coach at Long Beach State, has been named assistant baseball coach at UCLA, as announced by seventh-year head coach John Savage. Bruce will serve as the infield coach, assist recruiting efforts and work with the hitters with assistant coach Rick Vanderhook.

Bruce spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Long Beach State (2005, 2007-10), helping lead the 49ers to NCAA Regional appearances in 2007 and 2008. He served as an undergraduate assistant coach at Long Beach State in 2005, guiding the 49ers to an NCAA Regional berth.

UConn’s Justin Blood promoted to Associate Head Coach

JustinBloodUConn STORRS, Conn. – UConn baseball’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Justin Blood has been promoted to Associate Head Coach as announced by head coach Jim Penders and the University of Connecticut on Tuesday.

Blood, a Franklin Pierce graduate and former Seattle Mariners farmhand, will begin his sixth year in Storrs with a new title.

MLB Clubs holding College Coaches Hostage?

Georgia Tech’s Danny Hall discusses 2010 MLB Draft

DannyHallGT Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall recently sat down with Kyle Tait of RamblinWreck.com to discuss the 2010 MLB Draft and the future of the Yellow Jackets baseball program. GT had six incoming freshmen that were drafted but decided to head to Atlanta to continue their baseball careers. They also ended up losing nine out of ten draftees to the MLB Draft with Kevin Jacob being the only one not to sign a contract. Next season the Yellow Jackets will welcome 16 newcomers to campus. Just two everyday position starters from 2010 return this fall in junior third baseman Matt Skole and junior second baseman Jacob Esch. You can check out the full video interview below.

Bradley LeCroy returns to Clemson Coaching Staff

BradleyLeCroyClemson Clemson, SC – Clemson Head Coach Jack Leggett announced the addition of Bradley LeCroy to the baseball coaching staff on Tuesday. LeCroy replaces Tom Riginos, who accepted the head-coaching job at Winthrop in early August. LeCroy will assume the role of recruiting coordinator along with hitters and outfielders coach.

LeCroy (pronounced luh-CROY) spent the past three seasons (2008-10) as Tennessee’s infielders coach and recruiting coordinator under Head Coach Todd Raleigh. Prior to his stint in Knoxville, LeCroy served under Raleigh at Western Carolina in 2006 and 2007. LeCroy was also a volunteer assistant at Clemson for three seasons from 2003-05 and was an assistant coach at Anderson College during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. In his 10 years as a coach, LeCroy has coached 37 players who went on to be drafted and 40 players who have signed professional baseball contracts.
