Mike Cole named Head Coach at NJIT

MikeColeNJIT NEWARK, NJ—Mike Cole is the new head baseball coach at NJIT after spending the previous nine years as an assistant with three different successful Division I programs, Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan announced today.

Cole coached at the University of Vermont (2002 to 2004, and 2009); at Manhattan College (2005 to 2008); and most recently at the University of Maine (2010), where the team finished 34-22.

Bobby Walmsley added to Western Michigan Coaching Staff

BobbyWalmsleyWesternMichigan KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan baseball has announced the addition of Bobby Walmsley to the Bronco coaching staff as volunteer assistant. Walmsley was the starting catcher at Grand Valley State the past two seasons after beginning his playing career at Michigan State.

FSU Baseball adds Seth Miller

SethMillerFSU Florida State Baseball has added outfield Seth Miller to the 2010-2011 roster after the departure of Tyler Holt. Miller spent last season at North Florida State where he hit .312 with six home runs and 38 RBIs to go along with eight doubles and 37 runs scored.

Seth Miller is expected to be slotted into the center field for the Seminoles for the 2011 season filling into the huge shoes of Tyler Holt who was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 10th round of the 2010 MLB Draft.

Houston adds Steven Trout to Coaching Staff

StevenTroutTCU HOUSTON - University of Houston head baseball coach Todd Whitting completed his staff Monday when he announced the hiring of Steven Trout as the volunteer assistant coach.

Trout is the final addition to Whitting’s staff and will join Trip Couch and Jack Cressend, who were named assistant coaches. In his role as volunteer assistant coach, Trout will be the third base coach as well as coach the infielders and base runners. Trout will also serve as the Camp Director.

Dave Dangler joins Washington Coaching Staff

DaveDanglerWashington SEATTLE – Northwest native and National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Famer Dave Dangler has joined the Washington baseball staff as its pitching coach, Husky head coach Lindsay Meggs announced today.

"The baseball program at the University of Washington took a huge step forward today with the hiring of new pitching coach Dave Dangler," Meggs said. "Not only is Dave well respected and well connected in the Northwest, his relationships across the country in professional baseball will help us to recruit nationally. In addition to his ability to recruit, Dave is a proven developer of pitchers. His track record both as a head coach and a pitching coach reflects his commitment to player development. Dave Dangler develops young pitchers into Major League prospects."

Wichita State’s Mitch Caster Passes Away

MitchCasterWichitaState WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State baseball student-athlete Mitch Caster was killed in a car accident early Monday morning in Iowa.  He was driving home to Wichita from playing summer baseball in Rochester, Minn.

"We are all deeply saddened over the tragic loss of Mitch Caster," said head coach Gene Stephenson.  "Our entire team is devastated.  Mitch was a fine young man and great teammate.  The memories that every team member and coach has of him will always be cherished.  May God bless and keep him.  Our hearts go out to the entire Caster family in this time of grief."

2011 MLB Draft Prospects: Top High School Players by Fanhouse.com

PhilEvans Frankie Pilere, Fanhouse.com National MLB Analyst attended the 2010 AFLAC High School All-American Game last week which featured the best soon to be seniors in the country. He names Michael Kelly from as the most impressive pitching prospect in the game. He also states that Phil Evans was the most impressive hitter in the game and is the complete package.

Kentucky counts down Top 20 Games since 2006

UGA-UK Over the last couple of weeks, UKAthletics.com has been counting down the top 20 memorable games since 2006. They list the 2006 NCAA Regional hosted by the Wildcats as the most memorable moment while UK clinching the 2006 SEC Championship on the final weekend comes in at number 2. Keenan Wiley’s walkoff homer in 2008 over intrastate rival Louisville checks in at number 3 while Lance Ray’s over the right field fence off of LSU closer Matty Ott in 2010. Rounding out the Top 5 is the epic battle between Vanderbilt and Kentucky in 2007, which went 12 innings with the Wildcats coming up short to David Price and Casey Weathers as the Commodores picked up the win.

Since we are now in the dead time of the college baseball season, I thought this would be a good chance to update the writers on the state of The College Baseball Blog. We have experienced immense amount of growth since our old blogger site back in 2005. We moved over to the current domain back in November of 2007.

USC’s Cade Kreuter heading to Miami (FL)

CadeKreuterUSC USC’s Cade Kreuter will be transferring to the University of Miami to continue his college career according to his twitter page and InsideUSC.com. He appeared in 53 games (45 starts) hitting .283 with eight homers and 24 RBI. This move was expected as Kreuter’s father Chad was fired on August 9th by Southern California after four unsuccessful seasons. (FULL ARTICLE)
