STORRS, Conn. – UConn baseball’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Justin Blood has been promoted to Associate Head Coach as announced by head coach Jim Penders and the University of Connecticut on Tuesday.
Blood, a Franklin Pierce graduate and former Seattle Mariners farmhand, will begin his sixth year in Storrs with a new title.
"The title change is something that Justin would never ask for, but I felt strongly about it," said Penders. "He’s been a partner of mine in building our program since the day he stepped on campus in the summer of 2005, and I’m glad that his professional title will now more aptly describe his role in UConn Baseball."
"His tireless work ethic on the recruiting trail and daily dedication to not only the improvement of our pitching staff, but to the whole of our program are well-known to all. It is more than appropriate to formally acknowledge his immense contribution to our continued growth and success as Associate Head Coach."
Blood helped the Huskies to one of their most successful seasons in Penders’ tenure as the UConn ballclub broke into the National rankings in 2010 for the first time since the 1979 season. During the spring of 2010, Blood and the Huskies earned a program-best 48 win-season, while earning their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1994.
Blood’s pitching staff finished the 2010 season with an ERA of 3.19, which was good enough for 17th in the nation in Division I baseball. The Huskies also struck out 397 batters, the second-best tally in program history, falling short of Blood’s 2009 staff, which struck out a program-best 455.
Since 2006, Blood has had 10 UConn pitchers drafted in the Major League Baseball draft, including Elliot Glynn from the 2010 roster.

Good for Coach Blood and the Uconn Baseball Program. He has done a great job with that program along with Coach Penders.
