NECBL Playoffs Recap for August 3rd

The second day of the NECBL playoffs took place on Tuesday August 3rd with only one series being completed while the other three series will go to a winner take all game 3 on Wednesday night. The Newport Gulls completed the sweep to advance to the NECBL Eastern Division Final with a 3-0 victory over the Laconia Muskrats. They will face the winner of the Sanford Mainers and North Shore Navigators series on Thursday evening in Newport. Sanford forced a deciding Game 3 on Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over North Shore. The Danbury Westerners picked up a 5-3 victory over the Bristol Collegiate Baseball Club while North Adams Steeple Cats picked up a 6-4 victory over the Keene Swamp Bats.

Newport Gulls 3 Laconia Muskrats 0

The Newport Gulls got a strong start from Mark Appel (Stanford) who went eight innings allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out eight to eliminate the Laconia Muskrats with a 3-0 victory. Brandon Kelliher (George Washington) was the Newport Gulls offensive leader going 2-4 with two runs scored, a homer, and an RBI. Tyler Joyner (East Carolina) got the loss after giving up two runs on two hits and three walks and striking out seven in six innings. (FULL BOX SCORE) Newport now moves onto the Eastern Division Championship Series where they will host the winner of the North Shore Navigators and Sanford Mainers on Thursday at 6:35pm.

Sanford Mainers 5 North Shore Navigators 1

Dustin Ramey (UMass-Lowell) pitched six innings while giving up only one run on six hits, two walks, and striking out six batters to lead the Sanford Mainers to the 5-1 victory over the North Shore Navigators. Eric Ruth (Winthrop) followed Ramey on the mound where he pitched three no-hit innings to pick up the save. Kevin Kyle (Clemson) picked up the loss for the Navigators after giving up five runs in six innings on four hits, three walks, and striking out four batters. (FULL BOX SCORE). The teams will play a deciding game on Wednesday at Frazier Field in Lynn with first pitch scheduled for 6:15pm.

North Adams SteepleCats 6 Keene Swamp Bats 4

The North Adams SteepleCats kept their season alive with a 6-4 victory over the Keene Swamp Bats. Sean Albury (Nova Southeastern) picked up the win by pitching the final three innings giving up three hits and no runs. Cameron Kneeland (UMass-Lowell) led the North Adams offense by going 2-5 with a homer and two RBI. Paul Karmas (St. John’s) led the Keene Swamp Bats offense by going 3-5 with an RBI. Joe Miller (Maine) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs in 0.1 innings. (FULL BOX SCORE) The teams will play a deciding game at 6:30pm in North Adams.

Danbury Westerners 5 Bristol Collegiate 3

Kevin Kilpatrick (St. John’s) pitched 7.1 innings giving up three runs on three hits to lead the Danbury Westerners to a 5-3 victory over Bristol Collegiate. Brandon Boudreaux (Tulane) and Michael Williams (Kentucky) each went 2-4 with an RBI to lead the Danbury offensive attack. Bristol Collegiate starting pitcher Matt Carasiti (St. John’s) got the loss giving up four runs in 6.1 innings. The offense for Bristol was led by Eric Fredette (UMass) who went 3-3. (FULL BOX SCORE). The teams will play a deciding game in Danbury on Wednesday night.
