Bill Currier set to be named “Head Coach in Waiting” at Fairfield

BillCurrier Former Vermont head coach and current Tennessee assistant coach Bill Currier will be named an Associate Head Coach at Fairfield. After the 2011 season, he will become the head coach when John Slosar retires after 26 seasons in charge of the Stags. Currier spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach at Tennessee where he helped lead them to a 30-26 mark while going 12-18 in the SEC.

St. Petersburg’s Dave Pano Resigns

DavePano The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that longtime St. Petersburg College baseball coach Dave Pano has resigned after offering an improper scholarship to a student-athlete. Coach Pano had accumulated a 392-180-1 over 13 seasons. In 2005, he led the school to its first state title and a second-place finish at the JUCO World Series.

Scott Cassidy named Head Coach at Lemoyne

ScottCassidyLemoyne Syracuse, N.Y. – Le Moyne College Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Matt Bassett announced on Monday, August 30 the hiring of Scott Cassidy ’98 as head baseball coach following a national search.

Cassidy, who becomes the program’s fourth coach in the last 43 years, spent the past year as assistant coach and pitching coach for the Dolphins, as well as serving as the recruiting coordinator. With Cassidy’s assistance, Le Moyne’s 2009 recruiting class was nationally ranked by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Prior to returning to Le Moyne, Cassidy played professionally for 10 years, including parts of three seasons at the Major League level. Following his retirement from professional baseball, Cassidy spent one season as the head baseball coach at Sullivan Community College.

Bethune-CookmanLogo Bethune-Cookman University Head Baseball Coach Mervyl Melendez announced his staff changes for the 2010-2011 school year. Melendez named former team captain/catcher/student-assistant coach in 2010 – Drew Clark to a full-time assistant coach position.

Melendez’ long-time assistant coach Jose Vazquez has been promoted and will be the Associate Head Coach of the Wildcat baseball program.

Texas A&M holds Paint-a-Thon

TexasAMLogo BRYAN, Texas – The Texas A&M baseball team gave back to the community Saturday by participating in its fifth annual Paint-a-Thon at the home of Ms. Lisa Ford on Mockingbird Road in Bryan, Texas.

The Aggies painted and did minor repairs on the exterior of the house as well as created a flower bed in the front and a stone walkway in the back yard.

Lowell All-Americans on the Move?

120px-All-americans SeaCoastOnline.com writer Mike Zhe reports that the Lowell All-Americans are currently looking for a new home next season. The options are Portsmouth New Hampshire, Nashua NH, and Old Orchard Beach Maine. My early pick would be Old Orchard Beach which is a vacation destination and have redone a former minor league stadium which has been home to multiple showcase tournaments this past season.

Maryland Baseball adds 23 for 2010-2011 Season

The Terps added Creighton Hoke, a 6-foot-4, right-handed pitcher from San Jacinto College in Houston, to bring the number of 2010 incoming players to 23.
