Team USA defeats Chinese Taipei 9-1

Taipei, Taiwan – Jackie Bradley, Jr. (South Carolina), Brad Miller (Clemson) and Ryan Wright (Louisville) each collected three hits and helped Team USA to a 9-1 win and a split of the four-game series with Chinese-Taipei Wednesday at Hsinchuang Field.

Bradley, Jr. and Wright joined Alex Dickerson with a team-best two RBI, while Wright smacked his first home run of the summer on a solo shot down the left field line in the third inning.

Ball State names Alex Marconi Head Coach

AlexMarconiBallState Alex Marconi, who has spent the last five years as an assistant baseball coach at Ball State University, has been named the school’s head baseball coach, according to Ball State athletics director Tom Collins.

"We had an outstanding pool of candidates for a very attractive head baseball coaching position at Ball State," Collins say. "Coach Marconi’s knowledge of the program, Ball State University and the Muncie community played a key role in his being named our head coach. He is an outstanding person with great integrity and character who has a tremendous work ethic and desire to be the head baseball coach at Ball State. We welcome Coach Marconi and his family to this new position and look forward to his future with the Cardinals."

Team USA defeats Chinese-Taipei 6-3

PeterOBrienBethune-Cookman Taipei, Taiwan – Pete O’Brien (Bethune-Cookman) hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in two runs to help the Collegiate National Team (CNT) snap its two-game skid against Chinese-Taipei Tuesday with a 6-3 victory at Hsinchuang Field. With the win Team USA improves to 10-2 on its summer tour.

O’Brien’s fielder’s choice RBI in the fourth inning broke a one-all and gave USA the lead for good at 2-1. George Springer (Connecticut) singled to right to start the inning and moved over to second when Nick Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton) was hit by a pitch. Jason Esposito (Vanderbilt) advanced the runner’s on a sac bunt towards first before Springer sprinted home on O’Brien’s grounder to short.

2010 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game Players to Watch

MattyOttLSU Here are my Top 10 players to watch in tomorrow’s Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game at Fenway Park. The CCBL All-Star game is considered by many as the premier summer league All-Star game. The league has had 826 players proceed onto MLB careers. In 2009, the CCBL had 217 alums in the Majors while 234 Cape Leaguers were selected in the 2009 MLB Draft. USC releases 2011 Schedule

ChadKreuterUSC LOS ANGELES — The USC baseball program announced its 2011 schedule which will begin with a tournament at Dedeaux Field (Feb. 18-20) featuring Missouri, North Carolina and Cal Poly. A total of 13 teams that played in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, including eight teams from the Pac-10 Conference, are on the Trojans’ schedule for 2011.

TCBB Thoughts on a Pitch Clock

shotclock The NCAA Baseball Rules Committee announced some recommendations for the 2011 season including a slight change to the obstruction rule. The major change is the fact that umpires will be enforcing a pitch clock during the season. The rules continues to be that the pitcher has to throw a pitch once every 20 seconds with no runners on base. The proposed rule will also make a 90 second time limit between innings for non-televised games while having a 108 second delay for televised games. Conferences could enforce the rules by putting up a pitch clock in the outfield. The changes still need to be approved by Playing Rules Oversight Panel at its August meeting but it is likely going to pass.

2010 Cape Cod All-Star Game Starting Lineups

The coaches have put out their starting lineup for the game and announced the starting pitchers. Austin Wood from St. Petersburg and the Cotuit Kettleers will get the ball for the Western Division while Andrew Gagnon from Long Beach State and the Brewster White caps will get the ball for the Eastern Division. Chinese-Taipei takes Game 2, 1-0 over Team USA

TylerAnderson Taipei, Taiwan – After starting its summer tour with a perfect 9-0 record, the Collegiate National Team dropped its second-straight contest Monday night falling to Chinese-Taipei, 1-0, at Hsinchuang Baseball Field.

With the game scoreless heading to the ninth inning and down to its last strike, Chinese-Taipei pinch hitter Yen-Wen Kou slapped two-out, 0-2 offering from Noe Ramirez (Cal State Fullerton) to right field scoring Hsien-Hsien Yang from third base for the game-winning run. Yang reached on an errant throw by third baseman Jason Esposito (Vanderbilt) and wound up on second base before moving to third on a ground out to second by Chen-Yu Hung.

Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week (July 26th)

Michael Goodnight, Yarmouth-Dennis, RHP

Yarmouth-Dennis’ Michael Goodnight (Houston) is this week’s Coca Cola Pitcher of the Week. Goodnight has been lights out in his second year for Y-D, and put together his strongest performance of the season last week in a 2-0 victory over Cotuit. He came up one out short of recording a one-hit shutout, striking out nine over 8.2 innings. The college sophomore is following up a strong 2009 with Y-D (2-0, 2.52 ERA) with another promising season. He is tied with three other Red Sox for third in the league with three wins and also sports a 2.10 ERA.
