Vanderbilt evens series with Florida State; Deciding Game on Sunday

SonnyGrayVandy TALLAHASSEE, Fla.— Vanderbilt right-hander Sonny Gray and left-hander Grayson Garvin limited Florida State to just two runs on 10 hits in a 6-2 win Saturday afternoon in the second game of the NCAA Tallahassee Regional at Dick Howser Stadium.

The win evened the series for the Commodores (46-19), who will now face the Seminoles (46-18) in the deciding game tomorrow at Noon CT/1 p.m. ET. The winner advances to the College World Series in Omaha next week, while the loser’s season will come to an end.

South Carolina edges Coastal Carolina 4-3 to win Game 1

BlakeCooper MYRTLE BEACH, SC – South Carolina jumped out to an early four-run lead and behind a quality start from right-hander Blake Cooper and an impressive relief outing from right-hander Matt Price held on to a 4-3 victory over Coastal Carolina in game one of the NCAA Myrtle Beach Super Regional. South Carolina is now 47-15 on the year while the loss drops Coastal to 55-9 for the season. Game two is set for 1 p.m. ET and will be televised on ESPN.

Cooper went seven-plus innings and allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks to improve to 12-1 for the season. Price worked two scoreless innings of relief and struck out three batters with just one walk and one hit allowed to pick up his ninth save of the season. Coastal starter Matt Rein lasted only one-plus inning and allowed four runs, two earned, on two hits with two walks. He is now 7-1 on the year.

Texas evens Super Regional with 14-1 win over TCU

Taylor Jungmann AUSTIN, Texas  - Taylor Jungmann gave up only one run on six hits in 8 1-3 innings to lead Texas to a series-tying 14-1 win over TCU in the NCAA Super Regional on Saturday.

The Longhorns (50-12) scored four times in the third inning, including twice when Jantzen Witte’s throwing error allowed Brandon Loy and Tant Shepherd to score. Texas added to the lead with a seven-run fifth. Cohl Walla’s bases-loaded triple to left-center put Texas up 9-0. Shepherd extended the lead to 12-0 with an two-run homer.

UNLV hires Tim Chambers to lead Baseball Squad

TimChambers UNLV has hired Tim Chambers to become the sixth head coach in the history of the Rebels baseball program. He has been the head coach the previous 11 years at the College of Southern Nevada where he has won seven conference championships, three regional titles, two district crowns, and the 2003 JUCO World Series Championship. This past season Chambers received national attention as he coached Bryce Harper who was the number 1 pick of the 2010 MLB Draft. He led the team to a 52-16 record and a number 2 national ranking. Fullerton edges UCLA 4-3

 Photo by Matt A. Brown / For the Register Los Angeles – Nick Ramirez delivered the key base hit and later pitched out of a huge ninth-inning jam to save Cal State Fullerton’s 4-3 victory Friday night over UCLA in the opening game of an NCAA best 2-out-of 3 Super Regional.

Ramirez picked up his 11th save after stranding runners at first and third with no outs in the ninth. His bases-loaded single keyed a 3-run fourth inning and Christian Colon’s solo home run in the fifth proved the decisive run. Fullerton improved to 46-16 and UCLA fell to 46-14 after its third loss of the year to the Titans, who also have won 19 of the last 22 meetings.

Alex Panteliodis leads Florida to a 7-2 victory over Miami (FL)

AlexPantaFlorida Sophomore Alex Panteliodis (Tampa, Fla.) went the distance for his first career complete game and established a personal best with 12 strikeouts as No. 4 Florida (46-15) defeated No. 11 Miami (Fla.) (43-19), 7-2, in the opener of the best-of-three NCAA Gainesville Super Regional on Friday night.

The crowd of 5,429 fans was a season high and the largest postseason attendance since McKethan Stadium was renovated prior to the 2007 season. The Gators will have an opportunity to clinch their first berth in next weekend’s NCAA College World Series since 2005 with a victory tomorrow at 7 p.m., live on ESPN2.

McGee gives FSU 9-8 Walk-off win over Vanderbilt

MikeMcGeeFSU TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Twelfth-ranked Florida State (46-17) opened the Tallahassee Super Regional in walk-off fashion Friday afternoon thanks in large part to Mike McGee’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Seminoles a 9-8 victory over No. 17 Vanderbilt (45-19) in game one of a best-of-three games series.

With two outs and the game tied at eight in the bottom of the ninth, McGee stepped in and took a 0-1 pitch from Vanderbilt’s Chase Reid (4-2) over the fence in right center for his third game-winning hit of the season and second walk-off home run. It marked his third career walk-off home run, while the Port St. Lucie, Fla., has had the deciding hit in three of FSU’s four walk-off victories this year.

Matt Purke leads TCU to 3-1 victory over Texas

05 June 2010:  during the 2010 NCAA Baseball Regional at Fort Worth featuring the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs and the University of Arizona Wildcats at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, TX. AUSTIN, Texas - The series was billed as a pitcher’s dual and game one of the 2010 NCAA Austin Regional didn’t disappoint as Matt Purke and Tyler Lockwood led the No. 5 TCU Horned Frogs to a 3-1 victory over No. 2 Texas. Purke struck out 11 and limited the Longhorns to just three hits.

In 7 2/3 innings pitched, the left-handed freshman allowed just one run on three hits. He walked one, hit a batter and fanned 11 to improve to 14-0 on the season. Tyler Lockwood retired all four batters he faced to lock down his sixth save of the season.

Super Regional Preview: Arkansas at Arizona State

JordanSwagertyASU The Arkansas Razorbacks head to Tempe this weekend to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Razorbacks enter the Super Regionals with a 43-19 overall record after going 3-1 in the Regionals with victories over Grambling (19-7), Washington State (6-4), losing to Washington State (10-7), before defeating the Cougars in the final game of the Regional 7-2. Arizona State enters the Regional 50-8 after going 3-0 in the Regionals last week with victories over UW-Wisconsin (6-2) before defeating Hawaii twice by scores of 12-1 and 8-4.
