Ball State head coach Greg Beals will be named the next head coach at Ohio State according to multiple sources. He has spent the last eight seasons with the Cardinals accumulating a 243-202 record while going 117-80 in MAC play. This past season, the team went 29-29 facing off against the fourth toughest non-conference schedule in the country. He has also overseen 20 Cardinals being selected in the MLB Draft with Kolbrin Vitek being selected in the first round.

South Carolina Head Coach Ray Tanner Talks About Heading to Omaha (VIDEO)
Ray Tanner seems pretty enthused about heading to Omaha. He’s been there before, as he says, "What’s that been, 25 years?" Actually, the Gamecocks were a mainstay in Omaha from 2002-2004. Among other topics, Coach Tanner talks about being the National Runner-Up to Texas in the ’02 season, as well as the mentality of his team heading into the College World Series. South Carolina (48-15) faces off with Oklahoma (49-16) and will be the visiting team at 1 PM on Sunday, and could face off against in-state rival Clemson on Tuesday.
Allen Gum named head coach at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – Allen Gum was named the head baseball coach at Central Arkansas, athletic director Dr. Brad Teague announced Tuesday.
Gum compiled a 226-68 record in five seasons at the helm of Southern Arkansas and recorded five consecutive 40-plus win seasons. His .769winning percentage is the second best in the Gulf South Conference. The Muleriders have also spent 24 weeks at number one in the nation during the past three seasons.
"I’ve thought about this job for 20 years, how great a situation this could be," Gum said. "I knew this was a great place. We want to make a difference, and a lot of people at this university are difference makers."

UCLA’s Tyler Rahmatulla to miss CWS
UCLA sophomore second baseman Tyler Rahmatulla will miss the 2010 College World Series after breaking his wrist in the postgame celebration on Sunday. He is currently hitting .328 with seven homers and 45 RBI on the year. This is a key loss for the Bruins as he is the team’s number three hitter in the order and provides leadership on the field. We should see how this effects the Bruins offense which heading into the CWS was the weakest out of the eight teams left.

2010 NCBWA Pro-Line Athletic Freshman Players of the Year

LYNCHBURG, VA. (NCBWA) – St. John’s outfielder Jeremy Baltz and TCU left-handed starting pitcher Matt Purke have been named the 2010 Pro-Line National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman Hitter and Pitcher of the Year recipients, as announced by the organization today.
Baltz led the Red Storm with a .396 batting average and set school records with 85 RBIs and 24 home runs, claiming the team’s version of the Triple Crown. His 24 home runs are the most by a freshman this season. The Vestal, N.Y., native was selected the 2010 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, leading St. John’s in slugging percentage (.771), multiple-hit games (29), multiple-RBI games (25) and total bases (185). He also had 16 doubles, a triple, 95 hits and scored 64 runs. He was a unanimous first team all-BIG EAST honoree and earned second team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball.
2010 College World Series Schedule Released

OMAHA—The game times and pairings for the first two days of the Men’s College World Series have been announced. The 64th MCWS will be played at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha from June 19-29/30.
The first game on Saturday is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) and features the only first time participant TCU (51-12) and Florida St. (47-18). Saturday’s second game pits No. 6 national seed UCLA (48-14) against No.3 national seed Florida (47-15), and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (CT)
Oklahoma shuts down UVA to advance to CWS

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Oklahoma is headed back to the College World Series.
The No. 11 Sooners (49-16) knocked off No. 1 Virginia, 11-0, on Monday in the third game of the Charlottesville Super Regional to add the program’s 10th CWS appearance to the record books.
The 10 trips ranks in a tie for 13th all-time among all DI programs. The Sooners last appearance was in 1995, one year after clinching the program’s second national title in 1994. OU’s other trips to Omaha include 1992, 1976, 1975, 1974, 1973, 1972 and 1951.
Clemson Punches Ticket to College World Series

Clemson, SC – Richie Shaffer hit two home runs to help build an 8-1 lead and #13 Clemson withstood a nine-inning rally to defeat #16 Alabama 8-6 in front of 5,250 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in the Clemson Super Regional on Monday afternoon. The Tigers, who improved to 43-23 on the season, won the super regional 2-1 and advanced to the College World Series with the win. The Crimson Tide ended their season with a 42-25 record.
After Alabama scored an unearned run in the first inning, Clemson scored two runs apiece in the second, third, fourth, and seventh innings to take an 8-1 lead. But the Crimson Tide rallied for five runs in the ninth inning and put the potential tying run at second base before the final out was made to send Clemson to its 12th College World Series in history and first since 2006.
Freshman righthander Dominic Leone (3-1), the first of five Tiger pitchers, earned the win. He allowed just three hits, one unearned run, and one walk with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Alex Frederick pitched the next 2.1 innings, allowing just one hit, no runs, and no walks with a strikeout. Will Lamb retired the only batter he faced to record his second save of the season as well.
Alabama starter Nathan Kilcrease (8-3) suffered the loss in 5.0 innings pitched. He yielded 11 hits, six runs, and two walks with one strikeout.
Dave Schrage out at Notre Dame
Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick announced today that head baseball coach Dave Schrage will not be retained by the university. Schrage took over the position four years ago following in the footsteps of Paul Mainieri. He struggled during his time with the Irish compiling a 119-104-1 (.533) including 22-32 mark in 2010. This news opens the door for Pat Murphy to return to South Bend or another high profile candidate to head to South Bend. You can check out the full press release below.
NCBWA Announces 2010 Pro-Line Athletic Freshman All-American Team

LYNCHBURG, VA. (NCBWA) – A total of 30 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the 2010 Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.
The 2010 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team features players from 13 conferences and six conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 10 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.
Drew Maggi leads Arizona State back to the CWS

TEMPE, Ariz. – Drew Maggi’s two-run homer in the 12th inning gave the No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team a 7-5 victory over Arkansas on Sunday to send the Sun Devils to the College World Series. A sellout crowd at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark saw the Devils improve to 52-8 overall with the victory in Game Two of the Tempe Super Regional.
It is ASU’s 22nd overall trip to the College World Series and the first time going in consecutive years since 1993 and 1994.
