Steve Kittrell to retire after 2011 Season

SteveKitrellSouthAlabama MOBILE, Ala. – He’s led the University of South Alabama baseball program to more than 1,000 victories, numerous NCAA Tournament appearances and Sun Belt Conference championships, and had more than 100 of his student-athletes go on to sign professional contracts.  His contributions to the program, as both a player and a coach, led to his induction in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

With more than 30 years of service to Jaguar baseball, head coach Steve Kittrell’s amazing run at USA will be coming to a close.  Kittrell announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2011 season, Wednesday at a press conference at the Mitchell Center.

World University Baseball in Japan July 30-August 7; Canada announces roster

Clemson vs Oklahoma Suspended

Clemson leads Oklahoma 6-1 in the top of the sixth inning. The game has been suspended due to major thunderstorms in the area. The game tomorrow will start at 3:30 pm (central time).

CWS Game 7 Recap: South Carolina powers by Arizona State 11-4

The South Carolina Gamecocks raced out to a 10-0 lead after three innings to cruise to a 11-4 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils in an elimination game at the College World Series.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning where the Gamecocks offense exploded for eight runs with the big hits being a Jackie Bradley Jr. three run homer and Adrian Morales two run homer off the left field foul pole. They added two runs in the third inning as Jackie Bradley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded while Christian Walker got a bases loaded walk to give University of South Carolina the 10-0 lead.

Raynor Noble out at Houston

RaynorHouston HOUSTON - University of Houston Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades announced Tuesday evening that baseball head coach Rayner Noble and the Athletics Department settled on a mutually agreeable resignation.

"My 16 years as baseball head coach at the University of Houston have been a tremendous experience and blessing," Noble said. "I wish the team and program many years of success in the future. I only hope my next 16 years of coaching are as good as the last 16 have been."

Western Michigan hires Billy Gernon as Head Coach

GernonWMU KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan Division of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Tuesday, June 22, the hiring of Billy Gernon as the eighth head coach of the Bronco baseball program. Gernon was previously the head coach at IPFW for nine seasons before spending the last two as an assistant at Michigan State. Gernon is the all-time winningest coach in IPFW history.

“We are very pleased to welcome Billy Gernon as our head baseball coach at Western Michigan University,” commented WMU athletic director Kathy Beauregard.

CWS Game 6: Gerrit Cole dominates TCU as UCLA rolls to 6-3 win

GerritColeUCLA The UCLA Bruins and TCU Horned Frogs faced off in a Winner’s bracket matchup. UCLA sent ace Gerrit Cole to the mound while TCU countered with Kyle Winkler. UCLA opened up their College World Series with a victory over Florida 11-3 while TCU picked up a 8-1 victory over Florida State.

ASU’s Josh Spence Releases Statement

Josh Spence 3 Arizona State LHP Josh Spence appeared in a CCBL game on Saturday night where he pitched two innings giving up one unearned run against the Chatham Anglers. Josh wanted to address some of the questions that have been swirling since his injury.

2010 CWS Recap: Game 5 Florida vs. Florida State

 After getting two hits to start off Saturday’s opener against TCU, the Florida State bats remained mainly silent for the rest of the day.  That wasn’t the case on Monday, as roommates Tyler Holt and Mike McGee were able to lead a Florida State onslaught to eliminate Florida with the 8-5 victory, and will face the loser of tonight’s UCLA-TCU contest.  Asked about the rivalry with Florida, Tyler Holt said, “A wins a win, whether its Florida or UCLA, either one of us are going home.  I’m glad were staying

around.  My freshman year we got pushed out by a rival and it feels really good to be on the other side this time.”

2010 CWS Game 4 Recap: Clemson 6 Arizona State 3

CaseyHarmanClemson The Clemson Tigers and Arizona State Sun Devils faced off in Game 4 of the College World Series today. The Tigers entered the game with a 43-23 record when Arizona State had a 52-8 record. The Tigers sent Casey Harman to mound as he was 7-3 with a 3.73 ERA while Arizona State sent Seth Blair to the hill as he had a 12-0 record with a 3.35 ERA in 17 starts.

The Tigers would load the bases in the top of the first inning with one out but Brad Miller hit into a line drive double play that ended the threat. Clemson would break through on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when they picked up two hits, a walk, and an Arizona State error to push across two runs to get a 2-0 lead.

College World Series Day 3 Action

Here is our listing of tweets about the third day of action from the 2010 College World Series. We are set to have three games today with Clemson facing off against Arizona State at 11 am (Eastern), Florida and Florida State facing off at 5 pm (Eastern), and the finale tonight sees TCU playing against UCLA.
