Austin Regional Recap for Day 3

Rice 9 Louisiana-Lafayette 1

Mike Ojala threw a five-hitter for his first career complete game and Rice eliminated Louisiana from the NCAA Austin Regional on Sunday with a 9-1 victory. Ojala (6-2), who retired 12 straight batters at one point, struck out nine and gave up only one walk.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (38-22) had only three runners reach second base in the game, with Chad Keefer scoring their only run.

Atlanta Regional Recap for Day 3

Alabama 8 Georgia Tech 1

ATLANTA, Ga. – Alabama sophomore centerfielder Taylor Dugas homered on the first pitch of the game, setting the tone for the Crimson Tide’s 8-1 win over No. 8 Georgia Tech in the 2010 NCAA Atlanta Regional at Russ Chandler Stadium on Sunday night.

Dugas hit one of three first inning home runs for Alabama and sophomore left hander Adam Morgan logged his third career complete game as the Crimson Tide defeated the Yellow Jackets for its second elimination-game win of the day. 

Junior second baseman Ross Wilson went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and score two runs for Alabama, which plated seven of its eight runs in the game’s first two innings.

Norwich Regional Game 6 Report: Oregon vs Florida State

The Oregon Ducks and the Florida State Seminoles faced off in the Norwich Regional Final on Sunday evening. The Ducks were coming off a victory earlier in the day over UConn 4-3 to get a chance to face off against the Noles. Oregon sent Alex Keudall to the hill while Florida State countered with John Gast.

Texas A&M 4, Dartmouth 3

CORAL GABLES, Fla.—Joe Patterson and Kevin Gonzalez hit solo home runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to power Texas A&M into the NCAA Coral Gables Regional championship game with a 4-3 win over Dartmouth Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Aggies (42-20-1) saw a lead evaporate in the fifth after allowing three unearned runs, but rallied late and got a huge outing from closer John Stilson to lock down the victory. The Big Green’s season ended at 27-19.

Texas A&M 11, Miami 7

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–Texas A&M will play for the NCAA Coral Gables Regional Championship after an 11-7 win over 11th-ranked Miami Sunday evening before 2,248 fans at Alex Rodriguez Park.

With their backs to the wall entering play on Sunday, the Aggies (43-20-1) rallied to defeat Dartmouth 4-3, then downed the Hurricanes (42-18) in a back-and-forth affair later in the afternoon to force a winner-take-all championship game. The teams will meet for a berth in the super regional round on Monday at 6 p.m. (CT).

Norwich Regional Game 5 Report: UConn vs Oregon

The UConn Huskies (48-15) and Oregon Ducks (38-22) faced off in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon from Dodd Stadium in Norwich CT. UConn started Matt Barnes who was 8-2 with a 3.87 ERA. Oregon countered with Justin LaTempa who had a 5-3 record with 3.81 ERA.

Los Angeles Regional Day 2 Recap

UCLA 6 LSU 3

LOS ANGELES – Right-hander Trevor Bauer recorded 11 strikeouts in eight-plus innings to earn the win and lead the No. 1-seed UCLA baseball team past No. 2-seed LSU, 6-3, and remain in the winners’ bracket of the NCAA Los Angeles Regional before 2,613 at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday night.

Bauer (10-3) joined teammate Gerrit Cole as UCLA’s two 10-game winners, leading the Bruins into an NCAA Regional final for the third season in the last four years. Bauer limited LSU (41-21) to three runs (one earned) and seven hits, pitching into the ninth inning. He held the Tigers to five hits and no runs through the first eight frames.

Fullerton Regional Day 2 Recap

Minnesota 6 New Mexico 4

FULLERTON, CA – Minnesota’s Matt Puhl drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the top of the 10th and closer Scott Matyas struck out the final eight batters he faced to earn the win and lead the fourth-seeded Golden Gophers to a 6-4, 10-inning victory over No. 3 New Mexico on Saturday night at Goodwin Field.

Minnesota (32-28, 2-0 in NCAA Regional play) is now in the driver’s seat at the Fullerton regional, needing just one more victory to advance to the first NCAA Super Regional in the history of the program.

The Lobos (38-21, 1-1) will face elimination on Sunday at 4 p.m. PDT, clashing with host and top-seeded Cal State Fullerton, a 6-5 winner over Stanford earlier in the day. The victor will advance to face the Golden Gophers in the first of two possible regional championship contests beginning at approximately 8 p.m. PDT.

Norwich Regional Game 4 Report: Florida State vs Oregon

The Florida State Seminoles faced off against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday night in the fourth game of the Norwich (CT) Regional. Florida State and Oregon both sent their aces to the mound with Sean Gilmartin getting the ball for the Noles and Oregon sending Tyler Anderson to the mound.

Tempe Regional Day 2 Recap

Arizona State 12 Hawaii 1

TEMPE, Ariz. – Zack MacPhee had four hits and Seth Blair threw seven strong innings as the No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team defeated Hawai’i 12-1 in Tempe Regional play on Saturday. A second consecutive sellout crowd saw the Sun Devils improve to 49-8 on the season with the win.

MacPhee went 4-for-5 and hit one of ASU’s four home runs on the night. Kole Calhoun, Deven Marrero and Raoul Torrez also hit home runs in the game, while MacPhee, Marrero and Johnny Ruettiger all had three RBI each.Riccio Torrez had three hits, and Ruettiger, Marrero and Austin Barnes added two hits apiece.

Norman Regional Day 2 Recap

Oral Roberts 9 Cal 8

NORMAN, Okla.—Tyler Garewal smacked a one-out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to lead Oral Roberts to a 9-8 win over California in an NCAA Regional elimination game, Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

The Golden Eagles (36-26) next face either Oklahoma or North Carolina in another elimination game at 1 p.m., Sunday. ORU needs three more wins to capture the Norman Regional title; a loss will end its season. Cal concludes its season with a 29-25 record.

Myrtle Beach Day 2 Recap

College of Charleston 16 Coastal Carolina 6

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — College of Charleston (44-17) put up an impressive offensive effort in defeating Coastal Carolina (52-8) by a 16-6 margin in the first winner’s bracket game of the Myrtle Beach Regional on Saturday, June 5 at BB&T Coastal Field. The Cougars will advance now to take on the winner of Sunday’s 1 p.m. elimination game between Coastal and Stony Brook at 7 p.m.

The Chanticleers took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Scott Woodward doubled to left field and advanced to third on a single. Woodward scored on a sacrifice fly from Tommy La Stella.

Louisville Regional Day 2 Recap

Louisville 7 Vanderbilt 1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Fueled by strong pitching from Matt Koch and Neil Holland, and a key three-run homer in the first inning by Phil Wunderlich, the No. 7 national seed Louisville baseball team powered into the championship game of the 2010 NCAA Regional with a 7-1 win over 17th-ranked Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium.

With the win, Louisville improves to 50-12 overall and will play on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium against the winner of Sunday’s noon elimination game between Vanderbilt (42-18) and Illinois State. Saturday’s win also clinched the first 50-win season in Louisville baseball history. Tickets are still available for Sunday’s NCAA Regional games and can be purchased in person at Jim Patterson Stadium starting at 11 a.m. ET on Sunday.
