Coral Gables Regional Final

ChrisHernandezMiami CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The 11th-ranked and top-seeded University of Miami baseball team won its 12th straight home regional under head coach Jim Morris with a 10-3 victory over No. 4 seed Texas A&M Tuesday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Miami (43-18) will now advance to the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional to take on No. 3 national seed Florida in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, June 11 at 7 p.m.

USA Baseball announces Golden Spikes Award Finalists

DURHAM, N.C. — USA Baseball announced Tuesday the names of the five finalists for the 2010 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award (GSA).  This year will mark the 33rd consecutive year that the Golden Spikes Award will be presented to the nation’s premier amateur baseball player.

Chris Duffy, IF/OF, Central Florida; Yasmani Grandal, C, Miami (Fla.); Bryce Harper, C/IF/OF, Southern Nevada; Drew Pomeranz, LHP, Mississippi; and Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast round out the five finalists.

CBB Column: Recapping the 2010 Norwich Regional

FSUSuper I didn’t have a chance to really recap the Norwich Regional in which I attended over the weekend. It was hosted by UConn at Dodd Stadium which is now the home of the Connecticut Tigers. Heading into the weekend, I heard from Mark Rafferty and Ryan Rosenblatt that the Oregon Ducks were much improved. I was also looking forward to see the Florida State Seminoles who played much better baseball in the ACC Tournament after losing the final three games of the regular season to Clemson. The only other thing I was looking forward to was how the state of Connecticut would support the event.

Fayetteville Regional Final Recap

FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 15 University of Arkansas baseball team secured a spot in the Super Regional round with a 7-2 victory over Washington State Monday night in the decisive game of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional. Making his second start of the Regional, TJ Forrest tossed 5.1 strong innings as the offense built an early lead against the Cougars. The victory sends Arkansas (43-19) to Tempe, Ariz., to take on top-ranked Arizona State beginning Saturday.

"I’m really excited for our team and our fans," head coach Dave Van Horn said. "Tonight’s game was all about the team. I was telling them after the game how proud I am of them because of how they acted this morning. I had two or three guys come up to me and say that they could play. I had a really good feeling coming into tonight because I could tell the team really wanted to win. It all started with TJ on the mound. We got off to a good start with a big lead. It was just our night."

Fullerton Regional Final Recap

FULLERTON, CA – Junior Christian Colon finished 3-for-4 with three RBI while sophomore Nick Ramirez slugged a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth inning to lift host and top-seeded Cal State Fullerton to a 9-5 victory over Minnesota on Monday night and clinch a berth in next weekend’s NCAA Super Regional.

The Titans (45-16 overall) finished 4-1 in regional play, winning four consecutive elimination games to clinch their eighth consecutive regional title after losing their opener to the Golden Gophers last Friday night. Fullerton will travel to Southern California rival UCLA for the best-of-three super regional round beginning on Friday night (June 11) at 7:30 p.m.

Auburn Regional Final Recap

Auburn, AL – The #16 Clemson Tigers used timely hitting and three crucial double plays on defense to defeat #14 Auburn 13-7 and capture the Auburn Regional title in front of 4,096 fans at Plainsman Park on Monday. Clemson, who finished the regional with a 3-1 record, improved to 41-22 on the season, while Auburn, who was 3-2 in the regional, ended its season with a 43-21 record.

Louisville Regional Final

LOUISVILLE , Ky.— Connor Harrell’s RBI squeeze bunt base hit in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Vanderbilt to a 3-2 win over Louisville in Monday night’s championship game of the NCAA Louisville Regional at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Commodores improved to 45-18 on the year and will advance to the NCAA Super Regionals for the second time in school history (2004 at Texas).

VU will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to take on Florida State in a best of three game series starting on Friday, June 11 at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2. The second game is scheduled for Saturday at Noon CT on ESPN and the Sunday game, if necessary, will be at Noon CT on ESPN as well.

Atlanta Regional Final

KilcreaseBama ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior right-hander Nathan Kilcrease etched his name into Crimson Tide lore as he pitched Alabama into the NCAA Super Regionals with a 10-8 win over No. 8 Georgia Tech in the championship game of the 2010 NCAA Atlanta Regional at Russ Chandler Stadium on Monday night.

Alabama (41-23) captured its seventh NCAA Regional Championship and its first since winning the 2006 NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.

Super Regional Schedule Released

INDIANAPOLIS—The eight super-regional hosts were announced today by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

A minimum of 45 hours of super-regional television will be provided by family of ESPN channels, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.  Consult local listings for specific games shown in each area of the country. As many as 15 national broadcast windows could appear on the three ESPN networks from June 11-14.

The following four super regionals will be played Friday, June 11, Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13 (if necessary). The national seed is indicated before the team name, while updated records through the regionals are in parenthesis.

Myrtle Beach Regional Final Recap

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Coastal Carolina’s baseball team (55-8) won a thrilling 11-10 winner-take-all 10-inning match-up over College of Charleston (44-19) on Monday afternoon, June 7, at BB&T Coastal Field to advance into the Super Regionals for the second time in the last three seasons. CCU will take on South Carolina with game times and dates still to be determined tonight at 11 p.m.

Junior Cody Wheeler (12-0), who started and threw a complete game shutout on Friday afternoon, came out of the bullpen to throw three innings with four strikeouts to earn the win for Coastal. The loss went to College of Charleston’s Heath Hembree (5-3), who allowed only a run on a wild pitch in 2.2 innings worked.

Charlottesville Regional Final Recap

CHARLOTTESVILLE - Virginia advanced to the Super Regionals of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year, downing St. John’s 5-3 Monday evening in the championship game of the Charlottesville Regional at Davenport Field. The Cavaliers will meet Oklahoma next weekend in the Super Regionals.

Keith Werman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the Virginia offense. Phil Gosselin and Steven Proscia also added a pair of hits for the Cavaliers.
