Virginia Tech 4 The Citadel 3

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Virginia Tech held off The Citadel 4-3 in an elimination game of the NCAA Columbia Regional on Sunday afternoon at Carolina Stadium, and will now face undefeated host South Carolina at 7 p.m.

Should the Hokies (40-21) defeat the eighth-ranked Gamecocks tonight, the two will meet again on Monday at 7 p.m., to determine who advances to the Super Regional. No matter what happens, the Hokies, 2-1 in the regional, have now won two games in the same NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1954.

South Carolina 10 Virginia Tech 2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina scored six runs in the sixth inning and held Virginia Tech scoreless over the final eight frames to earn a 10-2 victory in the championship game of the NCAA Baseball Columbia Regional on Sunday night at Carolina Stadium, securing a Super Regional spot for the first time since 2007.

The Gamecocks will not know their next postseason destination until Monday night; Coastal Carolina defeated College of Charleston to force an if-necessary game on Monday to decide the Myrtle Beach Regional title. If the Chanticleers win again, the Gamecocks will travel to Myrtle Beach; if the Cougars win, Carolina Stadium is a potential host site for next weekend’s Super Regional. South Carolina has not hosted a super regional since 2004.
