Los Angeles Regional Day 2 Recap

LOS ANGELES – Right-hander Trevor Bauer recorded 11 strikeouts in eight-plus innings to earn the win and lead the No. 1-seed UCLA baseball team past No. 2-seed LSU, 6-3, and remain in the winners’ bracket of the NCAA Los Angeles Regional before 2,613 at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Saturday night.

Bauer (10-3) joined teammate Gerrit Cole as UCLA’s two 10-game winners, leading the Bruins into an NCAA Regional final for the third season in the last four years. Bauer limited LSU (41-21) to three runs (one earned) and seven hits, pitching into the ninth inning. He held the Tigers to five hits and no runs through the first eight frames.

UC Irvine 19 Kent State 9

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — UC Irvine scored in every inning as the Anteaters defeated Kent State, 19-9, in an elimination game Saturday at the Los Angeles Regional at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Jeff Cusick had five RBI and Francis Larson added four as the Anteaters climbed to 38-20 on the season.

Cusick had a pair of doubles and Larson belted his eighth home run of the season, and the third in the last two days, for his 25th career homer which is No. 1 in the UCI record book.

Casey Stevenson tied a career high with five hits while batting 5 for 7, scored four runs and had two RBI for the `Eaters. Jordan Leyland had two hits, scored three runs and also had a pair of RBI while Brian Hernandez contributed two hits, scored three times and had one RBI.
