SEC Tournament Preview (Bracket 1)

The SEC Tournament starts up on Wednesday with Auburn and Alabama facing off in the first game of the tournament at 9:30 am. Ole Miss and South Carolina will play immediately following the Auburn and Alabama showdown. All four teams are solid contenders to advance through regionals, while Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Auburn could all become regional hosts bids with great weekends. CBB Column: 2010 Big Ten Tourney Preview

The Big Ten Tournament begins Wednesday in a winner takes all double-elimination weekend. The winner goes to the NCAA Tournament, the other 5 teams go home.

This season has been by far the craziest Big Ten regular season in quite some time. Just two weeks ago, all 10 teams were within just 2 games of each other. Things shook out over the last week of the season, seeing preseason Omaha dark horse Ohio State dropping completely out of the Big Ten Tournament picture, and perennial bottom dwellers Iowa and Northwestern led some spectacular last week surges to secure their spots.

NCBWA Division I Poll (May 24, 2010)

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 13th year with its 2010 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will be circulated from Feb. 22-June 29 following the 64th annual NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb., and final CWS competition at historic Rosenblatt Stadium.

2010 All-Southland Conference Baseball Teams

UT Arlington centerfielder Michael Choice, who was the league's freshman of the year in 2008, becomes the first player in conference history to also earn player of the year honors. He is a .392 career hitter with 34 home runs and 160 RBI. FRISCO, Texas – UT Arlington centerfielder Michael Choice was named the Southland Conference Player of the Year by a vote of league coaches and sports information directors, the league office announced Monday in conjunction with the release of its all-conference teams.

Miami’s Grandal, Virginia’s Hultzen Lead 2010 All-ACC Baseball Team

DannyHultzenUVA GREESNBORO, N.C. – Miami junior catcher Yasmani Grandal has been named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches, while Virginia sophomore Danny Hultzen has received the nod as Pitcher of the Year.

The two standouts headline the 2010 All-ACC Baseball Team announced today by commissioner John D. Swofford. Duke pitcher/infielder Marcus Stroman was voted the Freshman of the Year, while Virginia’s Brian O’Connor received Coach of the Year honors.

Ranaudo looking to lead LSU to SEC Crown

The LSU Tigers will open the SEC Tournament on Wednesday against the Florida Gators. The Tigers are expected to send Anthony Ranaudo to the mound as he has struggled throughout the year with a 3-2 record and an ERA of 8.49. The Gators are expected to send Brian Johnson to the hill as he is 5-3 with a 3.62 ERA. He defeated the Tigers back on May 2nd. Johnson went 6.1 innings giving up three runs (two earned), striking four, while struggling with his control as he walked six. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – UNC Asheville infielder Justin Schumer (Charlotte, N.C.) has been named the Big South Conference’s Choice Hotels Player of the Week, and Presbyterian College hurler Andrew Foushee (Augusta, Ga.) has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced today by the League office.

Schedule Set for 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship

Regular season champion Texas will be the top seed at the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship scheduled for May 26-30 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. It marks the 12th time the championship has been played at this venue.

Big South Announces Seedings For Baseball Championship

(www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fourth consecutive season and the fifth time in the last six years, Coastal Carolina is the No. 1 seed in the Royal Purple Big South Baseball Championship, which will be contested May 25-29 at The Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.  The Chanticleers, ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation in three polls this week, won the outright 2010 regular-season championship with a 25-0 Conference mark to become just the second team in Big South history to go undefeated in the Conference season, joining the 1988 Coastal Carolina club that finished 15-0.  Coastal Carolina’s 25 Big South wins has set the League’s single-season record, and the Chanticleers have won their fifth regular-season Big South baseball crown in six years and sixth in nine seasons.
