Austin QuinnThe fans who showed up on Friday morning for the first game of the tournament were treated to three extra innings and an excellent ball game.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 12th on a sacrifice fly by 1B Brad Pippa. The leadoff batter in the bottom of the 12th, Josh Krummel, pinch-hitting for RF Dane Beaudette, reached first on an error. Beaudette then re-entered the game, and stole second. He tied the game on a single by 1B Branden Roper-Hubbert. Roper-Hubbert moved to second on the unsuccessful throw to home, then went to third on a single by 3B Steve Sabins. Miami’s Grandal positioning himself well for 2010 Draft

YasmaniGrandalMiami MLB.com writer Jonathan Mayo has an excellent article on Miami catcher Yasmani Grandal who is positioning himself as the top catching prospect in the 2010 MLB Draft that is coming up in about 2 weeks. Grandal was recently named the 2010 ACC Player of the year as he is currently hitting .431 with 14 homers and 56 RBI.

WAC Tournament Day Two Recap/Day Three Preview

Day two of the 2010 WAC Tournament saw the first elimination as 3-seed Nevada ousted 5-seed Louisiana Tech 3-1.  The 2-seed New Mexico State fell 13-7 to 4-seed Hawai’i and 1-seed Fresno State held on to defeat 6-seed San Jose State.  There will be two elimination games played on Friday as the field will be whittled down to three by the end of the day.

Big East Tourney Recap for Day 2

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Jimmy Parque had a solo home run in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth as St. John’s rallied back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat No.9 Louisville, 6-5. Parque was 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead St. John’s (38-18), while Matt Wessinger was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Carasiti (7-4) tossed 0.2 innings of relief to earn the win, while Bruce Kern took a no-decision after 5.1 innings of work. Ryan Wright was 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead Louisville (47-11).

After being set down in order in each of the first two innings, St. John’s took a 2-0 lead in the third. Paul Karmas led off the frame with a single through the left side, but was erased as Sean O’Hare reached first on a fielder’s choice. O’Hare moved to second on a passed ball before Joe Witkowski drew a walk to set up runners on first and second. Wessinger then lofted a two-out RBI single into center field, but the throw to third base bounced into the stands and another run scored on the play.

Brawl at the Southern Conference Tourney (VIDEO)

ElonPhoenix The Elon Phoenix and The Citadel were involved in a fight on Thursday night. Two Elon players and Two Citadel players were ejected from the game. The two Elon players ejected were third baseman Scott Riddle and pitcher Jared Kernodle. The two Bulldogs that were ejected are catcher Ben Carr and pitcher Nick Sprowls. All four players will face three game suspensions which will carry over to the NCAA Tourney. I have posted the video of the fight below.

Top-seeded Florida (41-14) edged fourth-seeded Arkansas (40-18), 5-4, in the second elimination game of the 2010 SEC Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Regions Park. With the victory, the Gators stay alive to face the loser of tonight’s winner’s bracket contest between fifth-seeded Vanderbilt (41-15) and eighth-seeded LSU (37-20) in tomorrow’s second game that will begin 30 minutes after the completion of the 4 p.m. game. Both elimination games will televised on SportSouth, air locally in Gainesville on WLUF-TV, channel 6 on Cox Cable and be streamed on www.GatorZone.com via ESPN3.com.

“I thought both teams played really well today,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “I mean, let’s face it, it was an elimination round and neither team wanted to go home. Both sides pitched very well and it came down to some key hits throughout the game. I think we played good defense for the most part. Both pitching staffs gave their teams the chances to win today.”

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fourteenth-ranked Florida State (40-17) stayed in contention at the 2010 ACC Baseball Championship with a resounding 11-4 victory over top-ranked Virginia (46-11) Thursday evening inside NewBridge Bank Park.

The Seminoles recorded a season-high five home runs in the win as three of those came off the bat of Stephen Cardullo. Mike McGee was responsible for the other two home runs as FSU evened its tournament record to 1-1 in Division A.

Fullerton Titans Recruiting Coordinator Sergio Brown Shares Insight

Sergio Brown knows what to look for in a Titan. He was recruited by Augie Garrido to play for the Titans in the mid-90′s, and has the ring to prove it as a part of the 1995 Championship squad. In his third season as the assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Fullerton after being brought over with Dave Serrano from UC Irvine, Brown has gained enough expertise to continually have his hard work pay off in ever increasing recognition, as his 2010 class was ranked #5 by Baseball America. He sat down with Matt Brown for a few minutes to give insight into the program, including what they’re looking for out of the next recruiting class.

SEC Coaches bringing in the Money

LSUPaulMainieri The Birmingham News writer Jon Solomon recently tracked down 11 out of the 12 SEC baseball coaches salaries and the numbers are very interesting. The highest paid coach in the conference is Paul Mainieri who has a guaranteed income of $625,000 and can make up to $285,000 more with bonuses. Second in the conference is Mississippi State’s John Cohen who makes $604,841.

WAC Tournament Day One Recap/Day Two Preview

The 2010 WAC Baseball Tournament got underway on Wednesday afternoon and fans were treated to an extra-inning game and an upset on day one as 4-seed Hawai’i came from behind twice to defeat 5-seed Louisiana Tech 8-7 and 6-seed San Jose State shut out 3-seed Nevada 6-0.
